I understand there is a free version of photoshop. I have tried to download this but even though at the end of the sequence it tells me it has been installed I can't find it. No icon on the desktop & not listed under "all programmes". What I do get is other things that I don't want so have to uninstall them.
Can anyone suggest a safe, easy download that will work? Im rather new to all this.
    Thanks.

Find Photoshop.exe in program files. Mine is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Photoshop.exe. I am using an older version. You may not see extension exe at the end. Right click the file and then click on properties to make sure.

Are you sure there is a free version of photoshop. As far as i know there is no free version. It should be trial version.

From where are you downloading it? First AdobeDownloadAssistant is downloaded. You might have installed only AdobeDownloadAssistant.

All I did was search for photoshop & there were lots of ' free ' downloads shown so I just chose a couple at random. The result was as detailed in my original post.
Are you saying I should go for the trial version?

You should download it from only a trusted source/website. You may not find a legal free version of photoshop.

In your case i would recommend you to try some other photo editing software that is free or open source. As i use photoshop, i don't know much about other photo editing softwares. Other users might help you find a photoshop alternative that is free.

Considering you have downloaded something that doesn't show up, I am more concerned that you just might have got something nasty, never mind programs you don't want as well Tony.

Run a scan with your antivirus, then also run one with Malwarebytes, If you don't already have it, from here and click on the free version download.

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Let us know if it finds anything, we might have to ask our malware removal guys to have a look.

There may well be some very early versions of Photoshop available, but you should be very careful about where you download them from, and also read and remove ticks from boxes for unwanted junkware while installing it, also if presented with a choice for either advanced, or custom installation you should do so, as the regular or quick download is where the junk gets hidden.

One final thing, you can't actually find the download, or do you mean you can't find the installed program after you did find the download and installed it?
I am not too clear on what you meant.

As far as I know there are no legal free versions of Photoshop but there are some "Lite" versions that are inexpensive that have most of the functions of Photoshop.
I might suggest an open source program called "Gimp" that has many of the same features and of course is free:

Gimp does have some of the same features that Photoshop does.

I guess there is a distinction between functions and features here. I first used Gimp in Linux where it was based and it was more complex than the Windows version is Cindy so it's a bit hard to explain...Photoshop is a really intense program with a virtual ton of features but is also the single most difficult program to use and remember I have ever used and unless you use it all the time, I have always found everytime I open it I have to relearn it all over again so I only scratched the surface as my photo career was ending as digital became important.

I did find (Via help from elsewhere at the time) that there are some very early versions of Photoshop available for free, from Gizmodo, here :-

    http://gizmodo.com/5973730/grab-photoshop-and-cs2-for-absolutely-free-right-here

However being that early a version it doesn't have the really good stuff the later versions have.

As far as using the software, the better one which has most of the full Photoshop stuff is Adobe Photoshop Elements, of which I use versions 8 and 11. PSE Frank knows more as he specialised in Elements a long time ago.

As far as Gimp is concerned, that may well be open source freeware, but pretty hard to learn and doesn't do anything like as much as PSE can, never mind the full Photoshop.
There are a few other good and free programs that can do as much as Gimp, yet much easier to learn. Photofiltre free, and PixBuilder Studio free, to name two. (Both have full paid for versions as well)

Evidently you are a very experienced Photoshop user and though I am an ex photog I was never really gifted with that.
For what I do Gimp offers me nearly what Photoshop does and I never found it difficult at all though I had trouble with some of the newer versions
I found very confusing so I use an older version that I was familiar with.

I only use Photoshop Elements, versions 8 and 11, however I doubt you could ever get fully experienced in it, quite often it may be you use one aspect or tool for a certain thing, then don't need that for another twelve months and you've forgotten how you did it last time. :bnghd:
