I use Outlook 2010 for work email and have had problems with it disconnecting and reconnecting as well as being slow to update folders. My laptop has windows 7 installed on it and the issue persists whether I have a LAN line hooked up or have the internet hooped up by wireless connection. I thought perhaps it may be in the settings that my company gave me to sync outlook to their exchange server but it was found that all there settings were correct. My company then told me I would need to contact Microsoft Support and they want to charge $250 for professional assistance. I'm not willing to pay that much for support after paying over $100 for the software to begin with. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello and welcome.

There could be a problem with your company's server.

While troubleshooting, here are some questions to ask yourself to help narrow down the source of the problem:
    1. Are there any other problems with your Internet service? Do web sites load as quickly as can be expected?
    2. Are any other employess having the same problem?
    3. If you bring your laptop to your work location and plug it into their LAN, do you experience the same problem.

    Thanks for the response, Dragnet.

    To answer your questions:
    1. The internet works perfectly fine. I even tried resetting the modem to see if that was an issue and nothing changed after the reset.
    2. No other employees have been having issues with Outlook.
    3. I work strictly from home as the office is 2 and a half hours one way from me.

I contacted the company help desk who worked through my settings and the settings were correct.

Do you use a VPN? There could be an issue there.

Most companies offer a way to access your mail via a browser. I wonder how that's working.

No VPN and they do have a web version, which works fine.

    I'm at a loss.

Something you may want to try: In Outlook, simply create a new email account using the same credentials and settings.
When checking your email, use the Send/Receive command to check only the new account.

I'm mentioning this because I've seen a similar problem with Outlook Express on Comcast servers. Difference was that these users couldn't get any new mail. All the credentials and settings were correct in each case. We created a new email account using all the same information and things started working.

Thanks for your help. Funny thing is that today it has not done the disconnect/reconnect and is acting normal. Have you ever seen this happen for a short period (2 - 3 days) then start acting normal without doing anything to it?

Since you haven't done anything, it may be a problem at your company. Either the network or the server. Can't say for sure.
