Hi Mark. Welcome to Computer Help Forums.
Sorry, I have little experience with this software.
Maybe another may be able to sort out this one for you.
In the meantime have you read this from Microsoft?

I have access to the Outlook Web App through where I work, just had a look and downloaded/saved a Word file, it was named attachment.ashx

Is that the same file name you got?

If so right click and rename the file and replace the .ashx with .doc (Word 2000 and 2003) or .docx (Word 2007 and 2010), so it would read attachment.doc or attachment.docx, this allowed me to read the file again.
