    hi,,

My question is off-topic because it does not relate directly to win 98; but is on topic because i
    am using win 98.

It is regarding winrar, and am hoping others here may have an answer.

How do i use the winrar program (i have it) to 'join' together multiple parts of a download.....?
In other words, if i have downloaded a music album from a news group, and it came in ten seperate
winrar parts, how do i join them together?
I have 'HJ splitter' which joins things or splits things, but i want to know how to join the 'rar'
files i have while they are still in 'rar' format.. should i extract them all first in the
folder i saved them in? or do i just point HJ toward the first 'rar' and let HJ figure it out?

I have d/loaded stuff before, whether mpg or wmv, wav, or etc,, and they join just fine, but in
this instance, the files are still 'zipped-up'.
I am asking because i am only about a third of the way through the complete download, and i dont
want to go further if i wont know how to join them in the end.

    thanks for help.

You use winrar to join the files
    it's covered in the help.

Have no idea why you'd use a completely different application to join
    them...it's illogical (says Spock)

    Thanks for reply,,
I want you to know i understand stuff, and prior to posting here, i spent hours in the help file of
winrar,, couldnt find a damn thing related to 'joining'. I looked under many other topics in
Help, but nothing seemed to help.

I have not used Winrar in a while but do recall that there was not much
    to it.

just put all the files in one folder
then click on the first one
or choose to open with Winrar.

IIRC you will then be given the options to join all files.

Seems like half the time, a little trial and error is easier than trying
to wade through cryptic "help" files anyway

It will be easy, but first....

HJ is a file splitter/joiner and like all splitter/joiner programs is used
for its specific tasks. To unrar or unzip a file you use the corresponding
compression programs to do that procedure.
The programs are not interchangeable to work on each others files, even
though HJ may name its split parts similarly filename.exe.001 .002 etc,
however rar files will have its own identification of filename.rar and/or
filename.r001, etc, with its r within the extensions and you will
    recognized that.

It will be easy, but first we need to know the specifics of the extension
names of the files you are downloading.
You said you have WinRAR installed is that correct? ...if yes, then if the
files you are downloading are .rar files they will show up with the
familiar WinRAR icon, and the .rar files may be named a few ways depending,
for instance they may come named:

    part1.rar
    part2.rar
    part3.rar
    part4.rar

    or

    filename.rar
    filename.r01
    ..........02, 03, 04 etc....

With WinRAR installed after you download all the files, all you
have to do is right click on any one of those .rar files, you will see
WinRAR listed in that right click menu, go to that, and you will see in
its context menu presented a number of options, one of which will be to
Extract - and so then do so.. ..that's all there is to it - it will
automatically uncompress and join all the files together.

  6. Are the filenames like ...part1.rar, ...part2.rar etc? If so, combine them
using Winrar. Otherwise, the complete Rar archive might have been split
using some other utility, and you join them using a similar utility then
process them in Winrar as a single archive. There's a good description here
(start about halfway down for WinRar, and the other option follows on).
    http://kewlrevolution.wordpress.com/2008/06/17/how-to-splitcombine-files-using-winrar-and-hjsplit/

You can usually post questions like this at the location where you are
collecting the files, and you will be directed to a FAQ that should (if
others are following the rules) relate directly to the files at that
    location.

Thanks Rick, thats all I needed to know; just that I have never done it with winrar. Will now
continue on with d/loading the rest and give it a go,, will come back if things dont go as planned,
but first, I gotta go get the rest.
