No Updates For A Few Days

I've noticed on a couple of my Windows 7 PCs that every time I check for
updates, the system claims that no updates are available -- but up until a
few days ago, there would be at least one update (usually a deifniition file
for Microsoft Security Essentials or Windows Defender) available almost every
day -- sometimes more than once per day.

The system reports that new updates were last installed more than a week ago.

When I open up Microsoft Security Essentials and check for updates from
within it, it does find new definition files and downloads and installs them
correctly.

Microsoft Update is not giving me any error messages.

I can't imagine that this is caused by anything I've done on this end, as it
started happening at the same time on two PCs.

It is my understanding that MSE no longer uses the Windows Update service in
the conventional way to update definitions.

As regards Windows Defender, MSE supercedes WD and disables it if you do not
uninstall it first.

By default, MSE will auto-update once every 24-hours. If you install an
update manually via the Update Now button or via Windows Update, doing so
will "reset the clock."

In short, let MSE do its thing and stop updating manually.
