My Dell 1750 laptop lost it's Internet connection. Everything was fine, when suddenly my son was disconnected last week. I am getting an error 651 when I try to connect with either the Ethernet or wireless. I tried replacing the the modem. Is it a hardware or software issue? Since both ways of connecting give the same error, I am thinking it's a software issue. I tried updating the drivers with mo luck. I tried a system restore with no luck.

    Hi,

    Welcome to Computer Help Forums

Try running a System File Check.

Start > type in the Run box ......cmd .....If Vista / Win7 do not hit ENTER yet
Right click on the cmd that appears top left of screen and click on "Run as Administrator"

At the command prompt type in .......sfc /scannow.......ENTER (space after sfc)

You may be asked for the installation disk - run sfc even if you don't have it.

Also found this that may point you in the right direction:

I suggest that you ignore the raspppoe.sys option.
