Hello, I have recently decided to set up my desktop computer that hasn't been used in about 3 years. I turned it on and everything went fine except I realized that my brother had downloaded a bunch of programs like limewire and frostwire. I decided I would just rather erase the entire hard drive and install windows 7. I borrowed a friends disc to clear the hard drive, took about 3 hours then went to install windows. Had some problems and found out it was the cd drive. Bought a new cd drive and the install went through. Now it gets to the desktop like its ready to be used but goes really slow and won't really let me click icons or the bottom bar. It randomly freezes or doesn't do anything then goes to the BSOD saying a clock interrupt was not received and at the bottom it says it is dumping physical memory. Does anyone know why this is happening? I feel like if it was hardware it wouldn't have been fine when I first turned it on. All I want is for the computer to run even if its too old for windows 7 and could run something like vista or xp.

Also, I can go into safe mode and can do whatever I want with the icons or start menu but once it's back in normal it doesn't work again.

Hi and welcome to Computer Help Forums.
There could be a number of things causing your problems.
Is this the BSOD image you are getting?.

Yes that's it. I was getting that at first then once windows 7 was installed I started to get that message again but with more at the bottom saying the physical memory is being dumped.

Guess I didn't read the bottom of that BSOD. Yeah that's the screen I get.

Hi. My guess it may be a driver related issue.
Go to the Motherboard Manufacturers Website and download all the correct drivers for your system.
Uninstall any old drivers and install all the new drivers.
Then go to Windows updates and download all critical and also custom updates.
Try that first and report back.

Well the thing is, my computer won't let me even open the browser most of the time. And when it does eventually open it freezes and BSODs by the time I could download a driver.

Hi again. Couple of easy things to check, Please.
Check your Ram by only using 1 stick at a time and see if it boots with each stick.
Then try each stick one at a time in each slot and see if it boots.
This could well be a ram issue so we need to check.

Further I don't know if this system is overclocked at all.
I would remove the Motherboard Battery for a minute and then replace.
This will set your Bios back to default regardless.

I tried all of those things. I also took a different hard drive and installed windows 7 on it. It all went smoothly up until it loaded the desktop. It's running very very slowly and won't let me do much like earlier.
