I've been putting together a low power computer for use on a boat, based on a via epia 5000 board like this one

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VIA-EPIA-5000-Embedded-533MHz-Eden-CPU-Mini-ITX-motherboard-EPIA5000AG-/120808167846?pt=UK_Motherboards_CPUs&hash=item1c20ba59a6
with a CF card as a hard drive.

The problem I have is getting windows loaded as it won't boot from a usb cd drive, I think because it only has usb 1.1 and the only usb cd drive i have is usb 2.0. can't get it to start from pen drive either.

I've had it running with linux puppy, loading puppy onto a vmware virtual machine which then allows saving to a cf card for use as a hard drive. But struggling to get XP on there.

    Any pointers?

    Thanx in advance

    Paddy

    Hi and welcome to CHF

I am not familiar with Mini-ITX boards.

I think because it only has usb 1.1
I don't think that this is your problem. USB 2.0 is backwards compatible with 1.1. It just runs slower ( at 1.1 speed )

I am assuming that there is a conventional BIOS on this board ?
Is Booting from USB an option and is it set to be the first in the boot order?
