There is a small triangle next to the words "shut down" on the start menu and if you open that you will see "restart", "switch user" etc....that you are missing.

 

.Thanks I did see it, finally.. how stupid am I. Thing. Was hiding in plain site. I have bigger problem now. My dell 660 will not recognize any cs's I insert into the tray. Brand new 500 dollar computer will not work. I tried to download faronics freeze to protect my Pc. Seems as though computer not worth saving. I have looked on line tor fixes. None seemed to work.

 

I thought you said your wife purchased a usb flash drive to copy pix out? What on earth is "faronics freeze" and why would you use it?

 

If your brand new computer won't work as you say, then RMA back under warranty.

The application is actually deep freeze, from faronics, it is a restore point downloadable disc. Wife used it on all her pc,s when she taught computer application. Kids are always messing with their computers this app is really great at taking it back to fix all that kids can do. I will take the pc back if i am unable to get it to respond, it seems the more i look for help the more i find this is a common prblem for this model, leading me to believe i will find an easy solution. I do not know a lot about computers so i have to think that i am part of the problem, so i have to try harder, before i can say something really is broke

 

I went through the books, manuals actually, and found a real number to call for dell support, this after having listened to a foriegn person from dell support, go on and on with the help and fix i needed only to end up wanting, 1 hundred nineteen dollars to boot, long story longer, this person talked me through a number of things to do, and now i believe the thing is fixed, i won't know until, wife starts to load the software. I checked out that program as I had never heard of it and it does look interesting.

 

This windows 7 is really foreign to me, not only does it look strange I am not able to do a simple thing such as change my homepage. I have a chrome symbol that I click on and it brings up a Bing or something. {{{ Results by Bing}}} I might ad here that I did go to remove programs and deleted the Bing bar////
If I want to get to google I have to type in the Bing line to bring up google. Ihave tried to make google my homepage but after trying to a accomplish this the systems seems to just ignore anything I have done or didn't do.

I have read their may be safeguards to protect the homepage but what is the use of going to the change homepage section and making changes

 

I would also like to get rid of internet explorer. I have the Norton that came with the computer still active, and avg loaded in

 

My screen also seems to be to wide for my monitor if I want to to see the whole page I have to scroll back and forth. And it seems not to be tall enough' I did not buy a new screen when buying this computer

 

Look all the way at the right on the top browser bar and you will see 4 // bars and if you click that and choose settings then choose "on Startup" "Open specific pages" and put in what you want there for your home page then choose OK.
You cannot get rid of Internet Explorer it is part of the operating system. To change the resolution right click anywhere on the desktop and choose "Personalize" then "Display" and then "Adjust Resolution" and set whatever you like to change screen size.

 

Thanks for your help. It did finally worked for me. I must have misconstrued your directions. I was thinking that mcafee installed from dell trial was blocking my attempts at changing homepage, I hope the homepage stay after reboot will let you know' thank you

 

My advice, go into "Control Panel" "Programs and Features" and uninstall that MacAfee junkware (IMHO) and download and install Microsoft Security Essentials for your Antivirus from here:

The home page is working fine now. However, when trying to tackle the screen resolution problem things are still questionable. I have a small screen size, 15 inches there abouts on the diagonal measure. When go to resolution section, they have recommended setting that is what I have now. But some screens like this one on this site seem to fit the screen left to right just fine but at the top I can still see a little bit of desk top. On other screen the resolution if this is the right word is way to big side to side and I have to scroll left and right to read its content.
this happens to varying screens on different venues.. I seem to remember a place in I think xp where you were able to push button for computer or windows I do not remember, to automatically adjust resultion to the screen or something similar. In trying to make different resoutlions in the area you directed me to the problem go worse not better. Please help, almost bald here in wv

 

I have discovered another issue more perplexing then before. When I press for my AVG icon infor shows up on screen so far placed to the right of screen that i cannot read the right size or have access to button to expand page. There is no scroll bar placed at the bottom to scroll. Is this something that is adherent to avg or what? how would I ever fix something like this?

 

Just opening the google homepage, it shows up so wide, I have a scroll bar, so I can view it side to side. How can stuff like this all be happening on a setting that I have chosen as recommended settings. I know I am dumb but until now I did not know i was stupid.

Easiest way to work that is to set individually, there is nothing I know of that is automatic. If you will just left click anywhere on the page you want to change the size of and then hold down "ctrl" on keyboard
and spin the mouse wheel up and down and choose what you like.

 

Reinstalling your graphics drivers sometimes can eliminate a lot of these issues.
