I've been trying to figure this out searching everywhere. I put the computer together and it's all fine. I am having trouble getting it to detect bootable media though. I'm using SATA DVD drive and Hard Drive on an MSA 870A-G54 Mobo. Even when I use dvds i've used on other pc's I get an error saying "Please insert bootable media and press any key" If someone can help me fix this I will be eternally grateful

    Hi nick!

I can't help with the computer problem as I'm not even close to a computer tech - but wanted to pop in and say hi and let you know that one of our Experts will be with you as quickly as possible (they are from all over the world and the time zone can be a bit of a pain this time of night).

In the interim until one of our Experts arrives, wondering if a quick run-through with the Windows program that detects and auto fixes hardware woes may help, at least a bit? It's called Windows Fit It Diagnostic - so if you'd like to try it, just click on the big green button at this below link:

Or perhaps this one will help until an Expert arrives:

    Or the general one here:

Our Experts are always happy to help and would you please be kind enough to let us know when a solution is found? Thanks ever so much and whether in our various computer sections or in our social area, you're welcome here at Computer Help Forums, Nick!

    Mara :)

sounds like you may well need to check the sata bus setting in your bios..
it can work in a raid setup, or in ide mode which if your not using a hardware raid setup for your hard drives, you should probably use
    ide mode..

usually you enter the bios by pressing the del key upon switching the computer on or maybe f2 its varies from bios to bios lol

just look for the key you need to press to enter setup! and that should get you in the bios :)

inside the bios i reckon you will ned to be looking for the boot settings!

but be very very careful about what settings you change in there if it doesnt make sense to you or its not related to the boot options of the comp leave it alone lol unless your into overclocking (which im not)

but still give it a go and good luck! shout us back to let us know how your getting on!

The bottom line in all of this is that the boot order must show the CD?dVD drive as the first. Many still show floppy drive. Otherwise it is trying to beet from the hard drive.

Ok, so the PC has no OS on it as of yet?

As the others have said you need to get into the BIOS.

As there are more than 1 SATA port on the board, it will 'normally' just go to the 1st SATA port for identification, Your CD/DVD ROM drive is likely in the 1st port and its detecting no OS.

When you get into the BIOS there are headers at the top that say advanced, boot, power etc. You want the Boot one and it should list:-
    Floppy
CD/DVD ROM (with/ without the name and model number of yours)
HDD (again sometimes with/without it's manufacturer and model number)

What you need to do is get the CD/DVD ROM to the 1st boot device and then DISABLE the others.. when the OS is loaded and set uo you then revert the first boot device to HDD and then keep the others disabled.

REMEMBER that an OS sometimes reboots a few times, so dont change from CD/DVD ROM until you are sure the OS is actually installed
