I've built a new computer out of the following components, and it isn't booting up. Every time I click the power buttons, the fans on the CPU and the case will switch on for a split-second before dying out. I'm not sure if one of the parts is defective or incompatible, or if it's a software issue, or if I just haven't plugged everything in correctly, and I'm hoping to get some help figuring out how to get this new computer running.

    Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
    G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
    AMD Phenom II X6 1075T Thuban 3.0GHz Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor HDT75TFBGRBOX
    ASUS M4A88T-V EVO/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
    Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Continuous Power ATX12V Ver.2.2 / EPS12V version 2.91 Power Supply

I ordered all of these components off of newegg. I haven't installed an operating system on my new hard drive, but I was having the same problem with my old hard drive, which had windows 7. Thank you for your help :)

    Hi and welcome to CHF

    Switch off at the wall.

Take all of the cards ( RAM Video etc ) off the motherboard.
Disconnect the data and power cables to the DVD CDROM / Hard drive.

Leave only the 20 (4) way connection from the PSU connected.

    Switch on.

Your system should POST ( beep ) and should not shut down.

If it does shut down then your problem lies with the PSU or m/board.

If all is OK at this stage then put just one card back and try again.

Re-connect the cards / connectiions just one at a time until the problem is replicated.
