This is what I propose to build. Would like an experts opinion first.

I am having lag problems when working Photoshop hard with many Layers, and need more grunt.

    I am not a Gamer.

    Parts.

    Aerocool Bx-500 Case.

    Widetech 650W PSU

    Asus P8H67 mobo

    Intel i7-2600 cpu 3 3.4Ghz

    2x Western Digital 500GB Sata

    1x Kingston DDR3 4gb longdim.

    Nvidia GTS450

    Windows7 Ultimate 32 bit.

Would it make more sense to go 64 bit?

If you are looking to manipulate graphics and your present system isn't coping too well I would consider 64 bit.
You will then be able to at least double the 4GB RAM you are proposing. ( Your m/b will support up to 32 GB )

I would also consider at least 2 RAM modules. If one goes down - at least you can manage with the other.

Just my two cents worth :)

Thanks Ken. I have a pretty strong system now which I thought would be ideal, sadly not.

4core 2.93 Ghz 4 GIGS memory is not coping.

PSE Frank has witnessed the present system lag and freeze under load.

Can lose many hours of work when this happens.

This proposed build parts will cost $900 US without the OS here.

I don't want to source US as the freight is a killer and anything fails under warranty, more freight.

Wondering whether the MOBO and CPU are the best choices.

I always like other opinions with these builds. :)

My 2 pence worth of advise,

Unless your intending to process Video, Audio or Gaming, save your pennies and go AMD, (Processing is not Playing) Personal preferences and finances should interfere with this choice :snckr::)

Sata III 6G transfer rate ?

I would always go for Double Ram sticks never one, without getting two tecky they work better in pairs, ( 2, 4, 6, 8, we who do RAM install :snckr: )

32Bit v 64Bit? 64bit, Its learnt to walk, Windows 7 Changed all the Variables in that debate and I think its time to admit 64Bit OS's have come of age :D Now all we need is 64Bit OS's with true multi core support :snckr:

Thanks for your input, Match. Very helpful. :)

All my Computers to date have double Ram sticks.

    Hi Dougie,

I also prefer AMD, I'm using AMD with all my new builds. If you're going with Intel,
the board and the processor are great. I recommend using two 2 GB sticks rather than
one 4 GB stick as they can be problematic. I have seen some not so great reviews on the
video card. You may want to rethink that particular card.

Finally got round to putting this Build together.
    The SSD is so fast.
Yes Allheart 55, the Graphics card could be better.I am not a Gamer so it can stay for a while.
    750 Watt PSU
Overall I am happy with the scores.

Very nice, running very cool as well, assuming that was a bit after it booted up, bet it goes like the clappers with that SSD in :)

I guess you tried editing some photos on it, Is it going well?

    Thanks for your opinions.
Woody. Those temps were taken at around 1 hr. They don't seem to vary much from those figures.
I was advised to go for a Crucial M4 SSD.It is a rocketship.
I am only keeping Programs on the SSD and moving pictures music etc to the Samsung drive.
    Overall very happy so far.
That is not my garden shed I posted. That was a joke. :snckr:

Excelent bit of kit there Dougie, my only gripe if it were mine would be a decent sound card, but you aren't into music so no need. Without looking it up, I assume the graphics card has its own sound? A lot do, If so that might have been enough to improve on the mother board integrated system.
Though it looks like the NVidea is maybe the graphics card, in that speccy screen shot, or am I confused here?

Hi Nev. I don't need a separate sound card for what I use this PC for. The inbuilt sound does a good job. I could up the Graphics card however the current Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 card is pulling 6.9 in the performance rating and seems to be doing the job well.As you know I am into Graphics mainly. I will get a better card some time but wanted another SSD first.I would like to see the Graphics card performance ratings into the 7's one day. I will install "Saluto" and will see what the boot time for slug XP is now.[IMG]

EDIT. 0.42 Sec. That's OK. I am happy with that.

Me being the other way round and more music and sound interested, I have never bothered with graphics cards. However since last night I have looked that card up and it does have inbuilt sound, which is as I suspected the indicated NVidea HD sound.
It just means that the system has routed the sound through the NVidea on the graphics card. The on board sound is the Realtek ALC887 according to the Asus spec for the motherboard, so if that was in use, Speccy would have said so.
Just a matter of interest really as sound isn't your concern I know. However for any video or other graphic media with sound, it should be excellent quality that you hear.

    Nev.
