Hey guys i've encountered a problem.

As of today 3/6/2013 my computer started making weird click sounds. Actually there was a problem last night as well.
For the first time my computer froze, I had fallen a sleep with a live stream open (flash popout)
When i wokeup the entire computer was frozen, i had to hold the power button on the tower down to reset it. This is the first time my computer has ever frozen.

Now tonight, while playing a game online called league of legends and having pandora open, i started to hear this weird clicking sound, and everything froze and stopped responding. i could still move my mouse though. When i ctrl + alt + delete i was able to look and click on the options. I selected task manager but it wouldn't actually open, just go back to desktop (This was done while the clicking was occuring) The clicking noises lasted like 30-45 seconds? then it stopped and everything worked normal, task manager popped open. I immediately closed my browser so i could finish my game in peace, nothing strange happend.

I record footage with a program called FRAPS. I just recently found out when i view these videos the clicking will occur 30-45 second after i've started watching them. It's almost as if any type of flash or video related content causes my pc to make these weird click noises. The clicks last about every second and are very easy to hear.

I haven't upgraded or downgraded my pc recently

So i just watched a video that had started the clicking and its not doing it anymore so i'm stumped as to what causes it..

Hi and welcome to the forums. :)

Is the system a desktop or laptop? If desktop remove the side cover and see if you can isolate from where the sound is coming. When I hear computer and clicking I first think hard drive and then fan, not much else that it can be.

Hey man, thanks for the quick reply, it is a desktop. i'll attempt to isolate the sound asap, it just did it to skype. I have a popup flash player going and went to message my friend. The flash player played perfectly fine however skype stopped responding until the clicking noise stopped.

No idea how long before it does it again but i'll go unscrew my case now and wait for it then figure out where it's coming from and update you.

A TIP. Grab a piece of garden hose or any hose about that diameter about 18" long.Hold one end to your ear and the other close to the Hard Drive and fans. Acts like a stethoscope and increases the noise from a given area about 10 fold.

Ok i've isolated the sound. It's coming from a grey box right below the power button that turns my pc on. I assume thats the hard drive inside of there. I can take a picture if needed and upload to imgur.

In the absence of the other guys that have already given advice, I'll step in and say that it more than likely is your HDD making the noises.
That being the case I would strongly advise that you take steps to backup your personal data, that is if you haven't already done so. This should be done to an external media, such as a thumb drive, CD or DVD, or if you have it an actual external HDD.

The type of media you use to back up your files to, could depend on the combined size in MB's or GB's that your files are.
