My pc is an HP DC 900 SFG, has Intel 8200 chip 4 gigs of ram, integrated graphics, also has a 3 year old WD HDD.

My pc was running fine until I deleted the Comodo anti-virus software due to an old nagging problem it have of not starting up at boot even though it was in my start folder, always had to run it manually, I thought I had deleted it fully, I re-downloaded it because it would not fix itself so figured I would get the latest version.

Of course Geek Buday came with it and I don't recall activating it, never used it before, well I can't remember now why I deleted it once again but got AVG instead, Geek Buddy would not delete, the old one nor the 2nd one.

Right after I got rid of Commodo my computer system acting up, freezing basically after booting to desktop, as soon as I tried to open a browser either Firefox or Chrome that spiral thing would just go round and round locking me out of doing anything bit unplugging the pc, that black screen that comes up when you unplug your pc and then plug it back in and start the computer again that gives you 3 options, normal start with a countdown, Safe Mode networking, or regular Safe mode and you just use your arrows to pick one, my arrows on my keyboard were disabled??

So had to let it countdown to boil up, sometimes I could open Firefox, Chrome forget it, some files or programs I could open with no problem although right clicking would start that spiral thing again and I would get frozen out.

Took it to a computer shop, spent 3 hours their, the tech ran aN anti Malware Program and CC cleaner, said she found a bunch of stuff that the programs got rid of also said since Comodo was not deleted and I had AVG running also they conflicted and that was also causing the freeze, she charged me $85.00 and said the pc was fixed.

Went home and plugged in the pc and went to open Chrome and the same thing happened, Firefox opened normally but when I tried to open a 2nd page that spiral thing started again, Safari opened but could not do anything else with it, Explorer had a big white screen. What's weird is that I could play my old Battlefield 2 game no problem although after the game was over sometimes could not close out of the game.

Took my pc back to the shop today and tech said my HDD is probably failing, she said this before even looking at it a 2nd time, she made that comment as soon as I handed it to her? What evidence did she have to support that claim?

Never mentioned that yesterday, do you all think she is just pissing in the wind?

I had to leave it their today, they would not let me wait on it, their manager is kind of mean.

What do you guys think it is?

    Hello and Welcome majorghn.

First thing I'd do would be to see how the machine runs in Safe Mode. Safe Mode loads just the essential services that Windows need to run. With that, you won't have wireless network connectivity, your screen will not have high resolution and some other things may not work. But try it.

If it works properly in Safe Mode, then try Safe Mode with Networking. You'll need to use an Ethernet cable because you won't have wireless capability. However, you will have Internet access.

If it works OK in Safe Mode with Networking, then there's something in your startup apps or services that is causing the problem.

Wireless lol. This pc is 8 years old :)

As my description said, could not get it into "Safe Mode" as my keyboard arrows dont work or were disabled plus I forgot to mention F-8 would not work either.

Hopefully the tech is smart enough to try and get it into safe mode.

I just wanted some ideas from you guys in the forum to give ideas on what this might be?

Please, no more threads, about this same Computer
    It starts to become confusing.

The shop has your PC and can check the HDD.
I am not passing opinion as I don't know what they are checking and what they are finding.
Wait till you get the PC back and any further issues we will do our best to help you.

Except to say Comodo has been known to wreck the Operating system, resulting in having to do a clean install of the Operating system. I had Comodo some years ago and caused me nothing but grief.
Brace yourself as they could advise you, a clean install is necessary.
To try and fix each problem could cost more than a clean install.
They will digitally test the HDD and prob run CHKDSK on it, if the drive is still OK.
Did you ask for a report, or did you tell them to fix it. They should Test everything, and ring you with a cost to fix.
How many Firewalls did you have installed? Comodo Firewall or Comodo and Windows.
    What OS?

Firewalls? I think just Windows. Not sure.

They said Comodo was all deleted and also Geek Buddy.

They are the ones who recommended Commodo over a year ago when I there for some minor issue with the pc, I used to always use AVG.

IS a clean install something I could do myself? Just stock the install cd in and let Windows do its thing right?

    What Operating system?
Much more involved than just sticking an instal CD in. No it doesn't just do it's thing. WRONG.
You need to save your Data to another Drive.
    Create a partition,
    Install the Operating system.
    Install Chipset Drivers.
    Install your Data.
Set the time and Date and year in the Bios.
    Install all Updates.
    Install all programs again.
Big chance the Bios would need an upgrade, and you can't do that.

From what you said,I would let the Computer Shop do it.
You are not up to that stage.
Wait and see what the Computer shop does.

    Way to go! :)
You don't need to buy any AV programs. Save your money.
We can recommend a free AV program that does an excellent job of protecting your Computer.

All I will say is stay away from Comodo... having had experience over the years w/ it wrecking client's machines; its A-V or worse yet, its firewall. It very likely could be the root cause of your issues.

Personally, @ this point & since I don't like the sound of things from that shop, I'd recommend a clean install (since you have the Win7 disc) and install Microsoft Security Essentials for protection. This will require saving any wanted data 1st and, as stated by others, reloading personal programs/software. Use the OS firewall. Also, if you do end up doing the above, be a cool moment to use a new HDD or even go to a SSD... you're formatting to a clean (new) install, anyway, may as well go on a new drive.

I don't know how to do a clean install? I have no money to pay them either, I am saving for a new PC build and don't want to sink any more money into an 8 year old desktop.

I already have a Thermaltake ATX case sitting in my closet and a nice PSU, just need a new MB, 8 GB of Ram, and the AMD FX 6300 chip. It's all sitting in my Amazon Wish List.

That $85.00 they charged came out of my new pc budget money. Luckily I sold something the other day for $50.00 so just down $35.00

My current pc is an old HP DC 7900 SFF, that model came put in 2008 and discontinued in 2011. Businesses used them, it's a slimline case, pretty bare bones with integrated graphics and 4 GB Ram.

If my car passes inspection this month with no issues I may be able to get my new PC components.

Will find out later this afternoon what's wrong with my pc, I bet they don't even know, praying it's not the motherboard.

If it's a HDD issue I have another 500 GB WD HDD, so no big deal except for transferring over the data, don't know how to do that.

    Drew,
Please find out how much money the member has before suggesting buying hardware that is not necessary.
