I assume that means that you found your way through the registry editor and now don't know what to do. Correct?

If so, you need to change the values as indicated in the larger right window. If you cannot find the value or item you need to create it in that window. Just right click on an empty part of the right window and select "new". Under the DWORD options (32 bit I assume) you need to create the name and set the value in the proper columns. If it already exists, just change the value.

Saying that, the doing is the easy part, whether that information that you have is valid, I have no idea. PLEASE BACK UP YOU REGISTRY FIRST!!!!!

I haven't a clue it has been years since I have even seen IE6 and don't know why you are still using it. (I assume you have your reasons.:)) I know how to accomplish the fix but that is the extent of my knowledge on the subject.

    Hi Dougie,

I wouldn't use the registry edit except as a school of last resort. If you ever do need to use regedit, you should
ALWAYS back up your current registry first as a necessary precaution.

To back up your registry download ERUNT from Here and save it to your Desktop.
Click Erunt.exe and follow the prompts to backup your registry to a folder of your choice.
To restore your resistry open the folder and start ERDNT.exe

There are several fixes that we can try to repair OE. Otherwise you may have to back up your email and reinstall
OE. First, do you use Outlook Express to store any files or folders? If so, you may have a corrupt file. They don't
reccommend using OE for storage. Most of the time when freezing and/or Not Responding occurs in OE it usually
means you have a corrupt data base.

Let's try to reregister the .dll files as the first step, okay?

Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, copy and paste regsvr32 urlmon.dll
    Click OK.

Repeat for each of the following commands and remember to Click Okay after each...
    regsvr32 mshtml.dll
    regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
    regsvr32 browseui.dll
    regsvr32 msjava.dll

When complete restart your computer in safe mode and open Outlook Express.
On the File menu, point to Folder, and then click Compact All Folders. Do not use
your computer until the process is complete, which might take several minutes.
If an error occurs, close Outlook Express, re-open it, and begin the process again.

Most of the problems in Outlook Express are caused by errors in the file Folders.dbx. This file is the master index
of the message store folder and damaged entries there can create many issues. When you compact all folders you are
also updating this master index. If you don’t compact all folders from time to time you will probably have freezing
    and not responding issues.

When finished compacting your folders, reboot your computer normally and open Outlook Express. Is it responding normally?

Hi Cindy.I installed Erunt, and backed up the Registry.
I run into a couple of obstacles.
    The others were successful.
    I haven't gone any further.Thanks.

Dougie, Did you try this step?

When complete restart your computer in safe mode and open Outlook Express.
On the File menu, point to Folder, and then click Compact All Folders. Do not use
your computer until the process is complete, which might take several minutes.
If an error occurs, close Outlook Express, re-open it, and begin the process again.

If you completed this step and Outlook Express is still freezing, before reinstalling Outlook Express, try this Dougie....
    follow the reset IE instructions.

You can repair damaged files or missing registration information in Internet Explorer 7 and Outlook Express 6 by resetting IE.

To do this, follow these steps: Start Internet Explorer.

On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

On the Advanced tab, click Reset.

In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset to confirm.

    Dougie,

If resetting Internet Explorer hasn't corrected the Outlook Express problems follow the directions below...

This will create a new message store folder as well as all new registry keys.

Export your e-mail in Outlook Express so that you can import them into a new Identity.

1)Click Accounts on the Outlook Express Tools menu.
    2) Click the Mail tab and select the default account.
    3) Click the Export button and select a location for the exported file. Make sure the extension remains “iaf” (for Internet account file).
    4) After the mail account has been exported, click Close.

On the File menu, click Identities, and then click Add New Identity.
    Clickable Thumbnail
    [IMG]

Type a name for the new Identity, and then click OK.

A new Identity allows you to start Outlook Express with all default settings, a useful way to work around registry or file damage.

    Clickable Thumbnails
    [IMG]

Click Yes to switch to the new Identity.

Click Cancel to close the New Account wizard.

If you are prompted to import settings or messages, select “Do not import at this time” or Cancel.
Click Accounts on the Tools menu.

Click the Import button and select the *.iaf file.

Import the mail messages from your old Identity.

On the File menu, click Import, and then click Messages.

Select Microsoft Outlook Express 6 from the list of programs, and then click Next

Select the name of the Identity to import, and then click OK.

    Dougie,

I'm sorry, I should have made sure you knew how to access safe mode on a dual boot computer. When the dual boot menu is
displayed with your choice of Operating Systems you will see "To specify an advanced option for this choice press F8.
When you press F8, it immediately takes you to the Advanced Options screen. Safe mode, w/Networking, w/Command
Prompt, Last known good configuration, etc.
Were you able to compact all OE folders? It must be done in safe mode...

    Dougie,

Start the computer normally and when the Boot loader menu (list of the available operating systems) appears,
use the arrow keys on the keyboard to select the Windows Operating System that you want. Press Enter, and
then immediately begin tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options menu appears. Scroll to and select
the Safe mode menu item, and then press Enter.

Before trying to re-register the .dll files it would be better to compact your OE folders. If the problem stems
from a corrupt data base or errors in the file Folders.dbx files, (this file is the master index) when you are
compacting them, you are also updating the master index of the message store. (Safe Mode, without networking)

You are welcome, Dougie. As for entering safe mode on a dual boot, it's instinct to begin immediately tapping F8 on boot.
I still find myself doing it once in awhile. [IMG] How many times have you heard, read or been told how to enter safe mode. [IMG]
I think it is probably one of the very first things a new computer user learns... [IMG]
