I wanted some help understanding music recording?

I know if you record music at 44.1 kHz at 16 Bit this is CD sound.

But every now and then I see music recorded at 48 kHz and 16 Bit.

I thought 48 kHz was old and used for Tapes???

Please tell me what I am not getting?

You probably won't hear the difference. I'd go with a higher bit rate, e.g. 24-bit rather than 16. You may hear that difference. Less distortion because the digital waveform will more closely resemble its analog original. Less work for the D-A converter.
