Forefront is good for email filtering. We use it after MailMarshal has
deleted most of the malicious stuff and the spam.

From the Enterprise point of view, Defense-in-Depth is best. a good
proxy/content filter such as the now-bought-by-McAfee Secure Computing
Webwasher is a good way to filter most of those malicious scripts before
    they get to the desktop.

Somehow I seem to remember, that it is not recommended
to rely on a MS product before its third edition :).

I have Windows XP3 Pro, SP3. You don't mention SP3. Will MSE provide
antiviral and anti-malware protection for SP3 also? In addition, you
mention "malware." Does that include spyware, such as Super-Antispyware,
Ad-Aware, Spyware Guard, Spyware Blaster, and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware,
all of which I now have? And do I have too much now as is?

  4. As long as you have only 1 real time malware scanner you may install as many
"on demand" scanning programs as you wish. I have 5 installed right now.

  5. Everything you've read about MSE in this thread is pure speculation at this
point. MSE won't be available to beta testers until sometime on Tuesday, 23
    June.

We assuming MSE will be supported in all currently-supported Windows
    versions (i.e., WinXP SP2 & higher).

I didn't mention malware, Mary Jo did:

In short, you and everyone else will have to wait & see.

  6. The screenshots in the provided hyperlink indicate that MSE will request

Just put this on perspective.... Microsoft already have published "3
previous security products ( defender/onecare/forefront ), who would better
know how to protect the windows system than the creators of it as well right
    ( logical ).

  11. Sometimes, using the same set of eyes only means using the same set of
    blind spots.

I fully expect it to do well in the general malware (+spyware/adware)
removal arena. All *better* AVs will fully invest themselves in that
arena and appear to do no better than most others when tested (for
detection and removal) against this new set of (installed) badware.

  15. With things like this:

    Important:
If your antivirus program is disabled or if you don't have one
installed, you should follow these guidelines:

a.. Don't download or open files from sources that you don't
    trust.

b.. Don't visit websites that you don't trust.

c.. Don't open e-mail attachments from contacts you don't trust.

d.. Don't open e-mail attachments from contacts you don't trust.
...well...it doesn't boost my confidence level much.

(even if that last "don't trust" were changed to a "do trust")

  17. Peter,

It asks, of course, for you to uninstall any other anti virus program. That
    is just good practice.

It disables Windows Defender because those capabilities are apparently
    built-in to the new software.

I still have MalwareBytes and ThreatFire on my system with no complaints or
nasty interaction. They both continue to function.
