MpsSvc service?

Discussion in 'Windows Security' started by Richard Fangnail, Jul 18, 2009.

  1. I have Vista and in my Task Manager (Services tab) there is an item
called MpsSvc and the Description says "Windows Firewall."

And in msconfig under Services tab, there is also an item called
    "Windows Firewall"

I have my Firewall turned OFF through the Control Panel/Security
    Center.

I found some articles saying MpsSvc service has to do with MS
LiveOneCare which I don't have. Do those "Windows Firewall" services
also have to do with LiveOneCare?

I want to add that I see it as a service and not as a process.

That is, there is no mention of a firewall in the Processes tab in
Task Manager. But the service is listed in the Services tab.

PA he was inquiring about Mpssvc... is he not? this KB I indicated and
verified that the said service is indeed one of the many services available
in vista family suite. And my perception with the way his inquiry go that
this service as he believe is only limited to WLOC... and also FYI he
indicated and it is indicated on the subject "MpsSvc service?" is it not

So logically we focus on the said service as most of his inquiry is
fragmented I just sum up the general content,
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
have Vista and in my Task Manager (Services tab) there is an item
called MpsSvc and the Description says "Windows Firewall."

I only answered his inquiry maybe if its convenient for you to continue the
thread well - think you have better idea for it well by all means proceed

    Hi Richard,

as we continue with the succeeding inquiry - please go to services console
    start>run then type ( services.msc )

After you isolated the said service > under the general tab you would see
path to executable there you would see the image process to be exact
"svchost.exe" utilize process explorer to filter the specific PID tag of the
said svchost that carry the mpssvc svc since there are a few of them in the
list if you only use task manager.

Hope that would satisfy you inquiry
