I'm running Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and all anti-virus/malware programs are running and up to date.

After being away from computer, returned to find an odd looking gray/black/white screen (photo below) and the below words showing:

"WINDOWS DISPLAY DRIVER HAS STOPPED RESPONDING

The IGX PRD 32 DISPLAY DRIVER has stopped responding normally.
Save your work and reboot your system to restore full display functionality.
The next time you reboot the machine, a dialog will be displayed giving you a chance to upload data about this failure to Microsoft
    ".

    Mouse was frozen.
Turned monitor off and on - no change in screen appearance.
    Tried Ctrl/Alt/Del" .... it wouldn't work either.

Turned computer off manually by holding down 'start' button on monitor.
Computer re-booted ... no above mentioned 'dialog' re Microsoft arrived ... but monitor now looks normal.

Devise Manager shows no ticks or problems and says monitor is:
    LG W2242 (Analog)
    Plug and Play Monitor

Not too sure what to do next - or, for that matter, if all the above means my monitor (not quite a year old) is about to die or it simply needs a new "display driver".

Thanks so much for any help once again,
    Mara

Hi Mara. Your Monitor is not dying.  :)

    You have 2 options.

Find out what Display card you have, Start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools > System information.

Go to Nvidia.com and click on Download Drivers > Fill in the boxes and download the latest drivers to your Desktop.

Go into device manager, and expand the Display adapters,Right click and uninstall the display Drivers.

Go to desktop and install Drivers.Just follow the prompts.

    Reboot.

OR Uninstall the display drivers in Device manager, reboot and let Windows find the drivers.
