What is the best software to use to view MOI videos? I have Windows Media Player but it is only playing the audio and not showing the actual video.

Hi June, are you sure it is MOI and not MOV or MOD? as far as I can find out I don't know of a MOI format. However one of the best players for just about any video format is VLC player, you can download it from here :-

    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

However, if you wish to convert the video to a different format such as WMV for playing on Windows Media player, there is AVC, available from here :-

    http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/

As is usual, please be careful during download and installing either, and watch out for unwanted inclusions by checking for tick boxes and removing the ticks. With any free ware always check, and where asked, do not use automatic installation, always go for custom installation as then you can check for and remove any unwanted junkware.

    Hi June,

MOI file format is usually associated with MOD or TOD files. (Camcorders)

Although Cyberlink Power Producer will play them, software should have come with the camera.

Thanks everyone. Yes, these videos came from a JVC camcorder. They were on my grandson's laptop which I am working on (more about that later). Lord knows if they still have the software that came with the camcorder. To be exact each video has two files. For example it will say MOVOOC and the other one says MOVOOC.MOI. Since I will be reformatting that computer I transferred them to an external HD and now want to put them on a DVD. Is there anything I need to know about putting them on DVD or is it the same as any other video?

I did some googling to get acquainted with this file type. Some I read said when they put them on DVD the quality wasn't the same. Others said they got video but no audio. Apparently, there is a process for burning these types of videos from a camcorder. Do I/should I change the extension first. And if so, how do I do that.

    Thanks again.

Hi June, if you download and install that second program I linked to, the AVC, it should be able to convert the video to a DVD format for you. I think you are in the USA so you will need to select the NTSC DVD format, however if somewhere else in the world here is a map showing the world regions for either NTSC or PAL. (In the UK we are PAL as an example)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:PAL-NTSC-SECAM.svg

The video files you have, the important part of the file type name is MOV, which is the Apple Quicktime format, the letters after I am not sure about, however they sometimes just denote it is a file with extra information. In cases like that, the file with the highest volume in KB, MB, or GB is the actual video file, the other is the extra information and for playing, converting, and re-recording purposes can be ignored.

If you do download and install the AVC, (Remove the tick in the box for Real Player or other junk)

After the program is opened, and before you send it looking for the video to convert, up on the top right is a drop down menu tick box which gives a long list of the various file types it can convert to, scroll down the list till you get to DVD (NTSC, or PAL) and click on that.
Next is to click on the little cog wheel symbol again top right, and then browse to the folder you want the converted file to go into. Or select the DVD burner drive, insert a disk and it will burn the disk once converted.
You just need then to click the "Add Video" top left to browse for and select the video, then click on the "Convert" button. If a long video it will take some time to do.

OK June, I will add that the AVC actually sends the converted file to the Windows own DVD burner, which may be OK in Windows 7 or above, but Windows XP may only burn it as a data file or not even burn it at all, as Windows XP does not have DVD burning capabilities.
If you already have a burning program such as Nero in any operating system, it would actually be better to convert the video file to AVI, or WMV format to then send to the burning program later.
