MMC cannot initialize the snap-in

I have a Windows 2003 R2 with latest SP. The other day I tried to go into my
administrative tools and click on Active Directory Users and computers and it
comes up with the following message: MMC cannot initialize the snap-in. I
have reloaded the admin pack and all of the services loaded and they all run
except Active directory users and computers, therefore I cannot make any
changes. How can I get this to run again without reinstalling the operating
system which is not an option. Any help would be greatly appriciated. There
have not been any changes to this system. It did give me a CLSID long number
    which is CLSID {E355E538-1C2E-11D0-8C37-00C04FD-8F393}

  2. Hello Golforfood,

Open mmc in the run line, add AD UC form there and try if this works. Then
you can save and use it.

    Best regards

I want to make sure I understand what you are saying. I open my command
prompt and type mmc ad uc? If not, you might need to explain a little more.

    Thanks

  4. Hello Golforfood,

In the run line type "mmc" without the quotes. A new window opens, here choose
file, Add/remove snap-in, choose add and choose AD UC. This console you can
save and use if it works.

    Best regards

O.K. I am a little slow this morning, I figured out what you were talking
about and even doing it that way I still get the message: MMC cannot
initialize the snap-in. Any other ideas?

Which snap-in are you trying to open (initialize)?
