OK, start with this, it's for Vista, but it still applies.

If that doesn't work, let me know. We'll uninstall the drive, then scan for changes and reload it. It's likely an application was incompletely installed or uninstalled that added a filter.

    Hi cocomac11,

No need to apologize, I'm sorry it didn't work! Moving on to the next step. We will uninstall the drive, then let Windows detect and reinstall it automatically.

    1. Bring up the Device Manager again.
    2. Right-click the CD drive with errors and select Properties.
    3. Select the Drivers tab
    4. Click Uninstall and follow the prompts to remove the CD drive.
    5. When done, reboot. Windows should detect new hardware and install it. Did that work? If not, does the CD drive show up in the device manager? Does it have the same error or different?

It didn't work As soon as the computer restarted it had a message stating that the driver software was not successfully installed. It does show up in the device manager with the yellow alert sign. The error message is: Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

    Hello, cocomac11.

No problem. We'll figure it out. Let's look at that registry entry and see what's going on with it.

Download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
    Download Mirror #1
    Download Mirror #2

If you have a 64-bit system, please download the 64 bit version from here:
    SystemLook (64-bit)

    • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
    • A blank Windows shall open with the title "SystemLook v1.0-by Jpshortstuff".
    • Copy and Paste the content of the following codebox into the main textfield under "File":
      Code:
      :reg
      HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} /s

    • Please Confirm everything is copied and Pasted as I have provided above
    • Click the Look button to start the scan.
    • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan.
    • Please post this log in your next reply.

Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt
2nd Note: The scan may take a while from several seconds to a minute or more depending on the number of files you have and how fast your computer can perform the task

Ok, please download the attached View attachment cocomac.zip file. Save it to your desktop. Double-click to open it. Extract the cocomac.reg file to your desktop. DOubleclick cocomac.reg to run it. It will ask you to merge with the registry. Let it do so. It should say "successfully merged." Reboot, then see if you can access the CD drive.

    Great!

Now, onto the remaining issue(s). I believe you said you had generic icons instead of the program icons? Do you still have that issue? Is it only on your desktop or is it everywhere?

Sorry it's taken me so long to respond. I actually don't see any now, but one in particular was the SKYPE icon. It was different on the taskbar and on desktop. But not if I selected from start menu.
