Microsoft kills off Skype for TVs

    Microsoft is dropping support for its Skype for TV application. Starting in June, Skype for TV apps will no longer be supported on televisions from Samsung, LG, Sony, Panasonic, Sharp, Toshiba, Philips, and more. Microsoft revealed the changes in a support article, noting that "TV manufacturers may remove the Skype for TV application from some or all of their models."

    Microsoft blames mobile devices for the change to its Skype for TV apps. "Over the years, users have changed the way they use Skype, with the majority accessing it from a mobile device - including when in the living room," says a Microsoft spokesperson.
