Microphone Problems

Hi, I've been having some issues with my microphone for a few months now. It all started when I suddenly couldn't use Skype with it, because the receive volume would be very (verrrry) low. I've already checked that my microphone levels are set high enough, the volume at 100 and the boost at +30. This was only a problem for Skype, I could record just fine with Audacity and use Mumble with no problems. I've been searching around for someone with a similiar issue and I did find some people experiencing the issues I'm having, although they were unable to solve their problems too.

So maybe a few weeks back, I started having some other issues. I'm now getting low receive volumes no matter what program I'm using, but restarting the system fixes the problem (except for Skype). I'm still not seeing any real pattern to it, like it doesn't matter if the computer has been on for awhile or if I've just started it up. I always start up mumble, notice it doesn't register my voice and then I restart and it goes back to normal.

I've been playing around with different drivers, both the drivers that my motherboard manufacturer supplies and also the drivers directly from the soundcard manufacturer (Via). So far I've tried both the latest releases and older versions. My motherboard's an ASUS P7P55D LE and I'm running Windows 7.

Have you tried using another sound card, or the on board sound?

 

Assuming that you don't find a hardware issue per Frank's post. I would try a complete uninstall of Skype. (preferably using Revo Uninstaller to make sure you get everything) then if things seem to be working properly reinstall Skype.
