I have Malwarebytes Pro & Winpatrol Plus. I notice that malwarebytes pro is not displayed in my winpatrol plus startup programs. Is this normal?

If MBAM is not set to start with Windows, it won't show. Is MBAM set to start with Windows?

To check, open MBAM and go to Settings. From there, look to the left-hand pane and click on Advanced Settings. It should be the top option.

    Hi N3,

I've never used Winpatrol, but from what I know of MBAM, i'd say that it's quite possible that it won't show.

    https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/151929-not-showing-in-startup/

So if WinPatrol is just checking the startup/run keys..... then MBAM won't be detected.

I can confirm Starbuck's post. I installed WinPatrol on a W7 machine that has MBAM Pro installed and set to start with Windows.

WinPatrol doesn't show MBAM in the Startup Items. However, if you look under the Services tab, the MBAM scheduler and service do show up. I also see the same using msconfig - no startup item, but MBAM is in the Services tab.

So what is the opinion on "WinPatrol"? Is it worthwhile?

    Hi N3,

I've moved your post to your own thread.
Only the original poster and staff are allowed to reply to threads in the Malware Removal forum.

In my opinion, it depends on how the system is setup and what security you already have running.
In Tony's thread he was running Kaspersky Total Security which includes:
    • Application control
    • System Watcher and Anti-Blocker
    • Automatic Exploit Prevention
With all of these watching and controlling the system, I didn't see any need to add another program like WinPatrol.

another example is the new MalwareBytes v3
    this includes:
    • Web protection
    • Exploit protection
    • Malware protection
    • Ransomware protection
So I wouldn't see any need for something like WinPatrol to run with this.

If you were only running a basic AV ..... then yes, something like WinPatrol would be helpful in keeping an eye on things.

This is why I say that it would all depend on what was already running.
Like we say..... too much security is just as bad as too little.
Only you will know if you really need extra security.

But everyone has their own opinion.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if the new MBAM v3 will be an update to v2 and to the original lifetime license or is it a new product?

MalwareBytes 3 is not available through the updates.
    It's a new separate program.
It can be run as is...... meaning you don't need to run an AV as well..... or it can be run along side your AV.
I'm running it on one of my Win10 systems along with Windows Defender.
KenB is running on Win8 along with Eset Nod32..... I know that Dougie is running it on Win7 but don't know if he's running it with an AV.
The beta versions did have some issues, but mine is running smoothly now on Win10.

If you have a license for the ordinary MBAM, it is transferable ... so can be used on V3.
If you don't want to go 'Premium' ...... it'll run as a free version just like the old MBAM..... only the scan times are a lot faster.

Make sure that you uninstall any earlier version of MBAM first and then run the MBAM Clean program before installing V3:

    • Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware using Add/Remove programs in the control panel.
    • Restart your computer (very important).
    • Download mbam clean and save to your Desktop.
    • Please close all open applications to avoid any conflicts when running the tool.
    • Locate the file mbam-clean.exe and double-click to run it... Vista/Windows 7/8/10 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.. and follow the onscreen prompts.
    • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so (very important)
    • After the computer restarts..........You can install the new version.
