From what I understand WOW doesn't support Quad core tech anyhow it was patched to support Duel core, in fact their are not many games that do support the Quad core architecture at the moment,

That said running a Quad core over a dual core will however give you a better fps around 60 compared to 20/30 from a dual, but this also depends on the GPU being used.

there are others who may disagree but if money is an issue, I would seriously look at a duel core with a better GPU card, but that said also it is always best to get the best you can afford.

the final decision is one of personal choice, do you want the best, and are prepared to save and buy it, or are you prepared to settle for less and improve on what you have got.

with my personal circumstances the ability to play the game at all on min settings wins over the ability to play the game on max settings, but I have a loving wife and kids to consider when building a pc.

probably not the definitive answer you wanted but the final decision is with Patrick's personal circumstances and choice.

If you are on a seriously tight bedget then you can go the dual core route and save some cash as Match suggested toward a better GPU.
If you are looking at MOBOs - I would suggest that you have a look at the Biostar range as they are really well packed with features and build quality.

    Why 8?:bnghd:

if you are going to run a 32bit OS you only need 4

if you are going to run a 64bit OS you will only use 6

So why not just get 4 for now and when the software catches up with the hardware technology you can always get another 4

but at the moment 8 is basically a waste of money

99% of games do not benefit from a better CPU as Match has said, there are only a few I know of that do (Supreme Commander) awesome game :D
Needs a hefty CPU and GPU.
If you look at the Minimum requirements of a game its all GPU based.

I am going with a Quad core I already ordered the motherboard, My brother was just thinking that a dual core would be fine but I already have a dual core. And I think it will be worth the extra money just to have a quad core.

I was just going to get 8 Gig's because they come in 4 gig packages, And I just want it maxed out on Memory.

The fact that you have an older dual core bares no resemblance to the newer dual cores.
As you are looking at gaming I would seriously use a dual core, overclock it and spend your extra money on a better GPU
The same is true of your RAM - by the time you come to actually use the 8GB your PC will be outdated

Oh I am sure, I will have a few posts needing help. Every one here has helped me pick out everything I need for my first build. So I think It is only fair that they get to see it. And maybe some one can write up a guide with all the pictures, for all the other rookies out there.

Okay, glad to see you're back :)

Remember to make a new thread for your actual build to make it easier to follow :D

I know this is more than $600.
But this is a one time expense.

You'll be happy for a long time.

    MOBO $68

    Monitor $180

    RAM x2 $143

    Case $100

    CPU $55

    GPU $155

    PSU $112

    OS $100

    T= $913

Edit: Going back through the thread, I see I'm a day late and more than a dollar short....
