I would personally reccommend this case:

    The Cooler Master HAF 932

Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER HAF 932 RC-932-KKN1-GP Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases

It is a bit more expensive at $144.99

It allows you to put the PSU either at the top or the bottom depending on your own preference.

But a quick note about the PSU placing, I have it at the bottom of my HAF and as the case is the same size as the Antec, it is not too much of a struggle, I even have room to route it nicely around the back of the Mobo.

    Also, nice choice on the processor, but if you were looking to save all the pennies, I would opt for the Q6600 as you can easily OC that to 3.3GHz if you really needed it, as it is about $20 cheaper;
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115017

But good choices on the rest of the stuff. :)

:) Nice full size case, with great expansion options, if you need them. :)

I don't want to confuse Patrick with too many choices, so I defer to

your expertise, DirtyPolo. :D I wish you luck with your build, Patrick. You

won't ever regret it and you will never forget your first experience! :peace:

I would only suggest that laying out all of the options is a good thing and a $25.00 difference is not all that small. Making the prebuild choices is part of the adventure.

And that case is monstrous! :D Shipping is minimum $25 for 3 day ground UPS and we all know how that works.

I looked at this case that was suggested.

    COOLER MASTER

I'm not sure but I don't think the motherboard will handle that many drive bays and expansion ports. You really don't need a full size case either. There's a lot of room inside that case isn't there? You really don't realize how big this case is.

You're going to need a PSU that will end up being costly. I would guess minimum 700 Watt to run all those fans. It's a higher end case that I don't think you really need. If you're looking for a monstrous case that you can really upgrade in the future then this will be the one for you. Otherwise I would be inclined to choose a Midsize case that will more than suit your needs.

The problem here is that we all tend to transfer our own wish lists for others.

I have seen some of what Polo and Dalo have built and I am not sure that I would not have to upgrade my driver's license to operate them. :D

That being said, determine your needs and your budget and take advice accordingly. Once the choices have been made, these people are really good and will help you through it. Promise!!

Yeah I don't think I need anything that big or costly, I am still thinking the antec 900 or 300 would fit my needs I don't really plan on doing a super computer just somthing that is fast and can be upgraded later on Some of the video cards I am looking at are really big so i just need somthing that will be able to hold one maybe 2 later on I already plan on getting a 600 watt psu maybe more depending on my video cards I end up up choosing

If I go for the q6600 would I have to get another fan on it if i over clock? and if i do would'nt it end up just costing as much going for the bigger processor?

For $20 difference I would stick with the CPU you chose Q9550 @ 2.83 GHz. I would not go with the Kingston 6600 @ 2.4 GHz.

My contribution to this effort is to create a new forum for build issues and make this the first thread.

It is now under hardware and in the new New Build Forum

We are growing Patrick and hopefully you with us. That being said, you have some really experienced people helping you and you will do fine.

Of course we will demand that you post pictures of the end product! :D

Nah - its fine most PSUs now are modular and allow for the PSU being at the bottom of the case ;)

    Patrick,

Thsi thread now depends on what you will be using the PC for -
6GB of RAM is FAR too much unless you are planning on using a 64bit OS (which I would not recommend to start with)

Then it comes down to the chips, I personally prefer the Q6600 chip.

PSU - you will only need at a MAX a 500Watt PSU for your setup - even if you one day decided to run 2 GPU's they will only be single slot ones anyway so a 500 watt PSU will be fine.

alright so I am looking for some suggestions on my mother board. I want to go with DDR3 and I want to have more then 3gig's I was looking at

    Newegg.com - ASUS P5Q3 LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

but this one seems like it has some problems if you try to go more then 3 gigs. I have been reading up on it and there is a approved list of memory that you can use but it still seems like people are having problems with it. I am not sure, if that is there stupidity for not getting the approved memory. or if it is a fault in the mother board. what do you guy's think? and do you have any suggestions on a mobo that supports the

    Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

    or

    Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

Hey Patrick, sorry about the long delay on a reply, i've been restricted access to a PC and don't get along with laptops too well :p

I would just like to say that in my opinion, it is not worth paying the extra for DDR3 RAM when there is not too much improvement over DDR2 at the moment, except for maybe when the price lowers a bit more.

Should you wish to go back to DDR2 then I would reccommend this motherboard with some 1066 MHz DDR2 RAM.

    Newegg.com - ASUS P5Q SE/R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards - $104.99

Should you wish to stick with DDR3 though, I would stick with the P5Q3 as it is a good board to use with either the Q6600 or the Q9550.

I would also agree with Dalo and say that for a first build I would not go with a 64bit OS unless you are really sure that you want to, as I believe there is no gain, but more complications and problems resulting in 64bit OS's unless you know exactly what you're doing.

Therefore with a 32bit OS, you wont need anymore than 3GB of RAM so that board will be fine.

    Okay, looking around,

There seems to be around 2 types of RAM that will deffinatly work with the P5Q3 board over 3GB.

    The best in my opinion, would be the OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Model OCZ3P1600EB4GK;
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227286

Unfortunatly this is only 4GB and it costs around $74.99

The second option is the Corsair DOMINATOR TR3X6G1600C8D

But 6GBs of this is very expensive at around $180-$200

If I go for the 32 bit OS and only put 3 gig's in does the memory on my video card count towards the 3 gig limit? I really don't want to limit myself to being stuck with only 3 gigs of memory, even if i have some trouble setting up the system. And thanks for all the help you are really making it, alot easier to pick out my parts.

Patrick, Yes, it will, just as in Vista, 7 RC is the same.
