From all I can see it looks like London is well prepared for the upcoming Olympic Games. In fact they seem to have poured so much money into the games that it almost (but not quite) equals the combined income of the USA Basketball team. :bnghd:

Sounds like they are well paid Barry, the Olympics cost around £12billion officially, though this doesn't include transport upgrades, extra policing through the Olympics or other various costs, which could be estimated to double that to £24billion.

So how much do you think a lower league Basketball player gets paid? Could I join by any chance :jump:

Well I guess I overstated it a bit. The top three players on the team barely reaches $70,000,000. But of course that is only this year.

I want a job in investment banking just for a couple of months then I'll retire. but looks can be deceptive, take a duck, on the surface it looks calm, underneath its paddling like hell.

Ten years in basketball and your not doing too bad for yourself then :D, but yeah footballing wages over here have got out of hand as well, the highest paid footballer is supposedly Lionel Messi (£27.5 million this year), Wayne Rooney is probably the highest paid in English football.

And Match if that Duck is anything like Investment Bankers it can paddle like hell for eternity, our Government will still bail them out and let them keep all their healthy profits (all made up money mind you) and bonuses while everyone else suffers, it's a shame our previous Government didn't sort all this out when it was in power for 13 years it could have saved money and done better things with all these big surpluses they had, rather than spend it and more on top in borrowing.
Maybe they should have used it to encourage Industry, rather than slagging off the current Government left right and centre for trying to tidy the mess up that they made, not that I support the way the current Government is going about the spending cuts (I'm sure they could have chosen better ways of cutting spending, though I don't know these exactly) but they are a necessary evil in these economic corrections that should have included allowing some banks to fail, as we'll still get the pain just further down the line when the current politicians are long gone and I'll be getting done over with higher taxes.

Don't you just love the short shortsightedness of some people, if me or my Dad went around throwing money about like that we'd have long been bankrupt, we wouldn't have been bailed out though.

EDIT: P.S. Not that I'm wanting to turn this into a debate, just we're on about the Olympics and overspending, which the UK Government has done well on both counts.

lol, give me £1million and I'd retire why on earth would you want to keep working for longer than 12 mnths if you get paid more than that, Governments are all the same they react to problems instead of acting to prevent problems, but then if it's only going to be a problem when your out of the job why bother to fix it, instead just leave it for the next guy down the line, a lot of the current problems started in the 70's, as for the Olympics the jury's out, if in the next budget I hear the words " We made £X Billions profit so were cutting vat" I'll think I've died and gone to heaven.

So far it is looking like security of the Olympics is the biggest headache they are going to have in the short term, never mind the financial mess and the costs.

The company given the contract can't fulfil it because of a massive staff shortage, even G4S own boss admitted he had no idea how short staffed the company is.

Then the armed forces have now been given the go ahead in the courts to install rocket missiles and other hardware on roof tops, have the silly blighters not realised that a good onslaught of just one of those installations by a terrorist group, with subsequent control of it by the terrorists could be disastrous. How much protection of a rooftop missile base is in place? I suspect not enough.

OK we are now worrying and complaining about the costs to this country the Olympics will bring, it is the cost of mounting this security that will be the highest.

Whoops it was just pointed out that I wrote $70,000.00 when I meant $70 Million.
