Local users and CAL

    Hi

I´m a bit confused about the licensing. I know that all AD users need a CAL
but what about the local users?

I have a small web app that needs the users to access some stuff on my
server. To verify that it is the correct users I´ve added them as local
users. Do I need to get CALs for them as well. They are not added to the AD
and my server is not a domain controller.

Meinolf is right; call Microsoft. Licensing is an arcane thing.

    Regardless, two things:

A CAL is for a person, not a user object. If you have five domain users and
each of them has five domain accounts, well ...you need five CALs.

Also, if this server is a domain member, don't use local accounts - just
change the security so the users' domain accounts can get to the data they
    need.
