Is there away to determine the max number of concurrent device
connections a windows server has ever had or at least something that
give me an idea of the actually number of licenses used? To make a long
painful story short we are forced to repurchase software and I would
like to purchase as close to the needed amount of licenses instead of a
license for every single device in the building if they aren't utilizing
it. Need to save money and all.

  2. Hello matthew,

Either you have to buy user client access licenses for the amount of you
company users that access the server or the amount of devices your company
have, and that should be countable. Added workstations to the domain or existing
user accounts. Also any workstation has to be full licensed for all installed
    software.

And to make it complete, if you have no info go to your preferred "license
dealer" and he should do it the correct way for you. Or call MS support.

    Best regards

The problem is that Microsoft has not allowed concurrent licenses since,
well...., forever... MS server software requires that you buy a license
for every *DEVICE* or *USER* that could use that software.

If you have more users than computers, you want "Per Device" licenses.
If, on the other hand, you have more computers than users, get "Per
    User" licenses.

This applies to server CALs as well as TS CALs and SQL server CALs....

I suppose the concurrent use license model doesn't generate the revenue. :p
