laptop lag without reason ?

hello experts,

my laptop HP elitebook 8460p is badly lagging since 1 week. For example when i watch a movie on VLC player it shows the first minutes always very big black squares and the picture is very pixely, after a while its getting better. Or when i open a new tab it takes longer then usually to open a new tab. I scanned everything with my Norton, checked for maleware and i even made a new installation of win 7, but nothing seems to work. I updated my graphic card HP graphics 3000. Wich driver should i maybe update to solve the problem ?

Who and what is your internet connection and which browser are you using?

 

thanks for your reply ! I use a Rogers Canada Wifi modem and my browser is google chrome.

 

Is this lagging only when viewing something on the internet, or is it the same if viewing a file you already have on the computer?
If it is only the internet, you may be having a problem with your download speed. Please do a speed check from this link and let us know what it tells you about download and upload speeds please.

If on the other hand your speeds are good and quite high, it may be a problem with the RAM memory in the computer itself, we can discuss that if need be after you tell us your speed results.

so i made the test .... Download 35.64Mb/s .... Upload 11.05Mb/s .... Ping 35 ms

it seems that its not so much lagging when i view a file on my laptop, i can play a pc game (gone home) and there its only lagging sometimes, it runs pretty good....i am not an expert so i dont know how to describe my problems the best

i got 4 GB RAM and 2.95 useable RAM
my graphic card is a Intel HD graphics 3000

That is onboard graphics which by definition isn't really for gaming and neither are laptops unless they have a separate video card. It doesn't sound like the modem is issue either. How old is laptop because I am thinking hard drive. Unless WD drive, I seldom see them last more than a year and most warranties are for 3 years. You could try running "chkdsk /r", to see if that helps.

Now this can take a very long time if big hard drive or lots of issues so if need be let it go over night. If by chance it comes up with "drive clean" and does nothing try again.

i ran a sfc / sannow ... it said ``did not find any integrity violations``
i also ran a chkdsk/r ... and here i get the message: Cannot lock current drive. Chkdsk can not run because the volume is in use by another process .... (the browser was closed and i had nothing else open)

what could that be ? thanks in advance !

 

You are missing the space between "k" and "/" but that may not matter any more but try it again with the space.....that should ask you if you want to unlock the drive and ask for a "y" or "n" for yes or no and you say yes.

just wanted to update,

i think i found the reason for the lag, i just simply forgot to set my graphic card settings after i updated my intel graphics 3000, i had it on maximum resolution, now that i changed it to middle resolution and it seems to work for now

i am out of ideas.....i cleaned also again the fan of the laptop, is there anything else inside the laptop i could maybe clean ? And i was also thinking maybe flashing the BIOS would help, but i am not an expert and flashing the BIOS suppose to be really dangerous ? thank you in advance

 

It would seem as if you still have not run checkdisk which is what I know should fix the problem so how about going back and following the two possibilities I gave you to complete that.
