Ok well the device manager shows only 2 things as unkown/not working. One of them is a mass storage device which is weird cause nothing is plugged in and the other is just an unknow device. Heres a screenshot

    Screenshot 2014-03-18 10.56.14.png

And other than the graphics card nothing says its a "chipset". So it may be the unknown device. I'll see if i cant find a driver for it.

I was thinking the same thing....Joe when you installed the motherboard drivers did you start with the chipset driver, the most important one there?

Just as a suggestion folks, it might be better at this stage to again reformat the drive, install the operating system, then hopefully the correct drivers which we can help in finding. I say this in case the previous set were not the correct ones for your system.
I know you said it is a Toshiba a205 satellite laptop, is this correct and is there anything more about the model we may need to know in order to research and find the correct drivers.

Hi, how did you get the Windows 7, was it a complete disk or was it the upgrade version, and do you have the valid product key for it? that info will also be of help.

The links that I posted for each driver converted back to the Toshiba Satellite A205-S4597 main page.

After you click this link, http://support.toshiba.com/support/modelHome?freeText=1702261,, select
the Drivers and Updates tab. On the left side of the page, under filter by, click the Chipset and select
    the download link.

Click the Display and select the second link, Intel Display Driver For Windows 7 32 bit etc. until you have selected all of the correct drivers.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Don't forget to install them in the following order, rebooting after each driver.
    1) Chipset
    2) Display
    3) Sound
    4) LAN
    5) Wireless

Ok so I reinstalled windows and installed all of the drivers in the order you listed, but it still didnt work. Luckly my laptop needed to be wiped anyways so its not a total failure. Just curious though could it be the bios? Im going to trya new battery out when my ebay items end.

This can get expensive because we need to start with a new genuine Toshiba power cord and battery to be certain, not compatibles.
Is bios set to optimized default settings? If not it should be and that is about the extent of the role that plays. The problem is you could waste a lot of money here and it is sounding more and more like the motherboard is the issue
which could easily have been caused by wrong power cord providing it the wrong power.

Ok the power cord I have right now is a genuine one that I bought to replace the original cord cause I had thought that was the problem when it first started. The bios doesnt have an optimized default setting just the normal default. Well if its the motherboard I don't really think its worth saving.

Hi Joe, considering that so far, the RAM has been checked, (If you did), the operating system has been reinstalled, and all the drivers, I think now you are definitely at the motherboard. The hard drive must be OK or the operating system would have given problems installing, I would even think the CPU is OK too.
That can only leave us with those odd drivers not doing much because the hardware they are for is duff, which of course is on the motherboard.
For its age, you are right to not throw any money into a new motherboard, the only thing I would do if it were me, is salvage the hard drive as it can be put into a USB enclosure and used as spare storage as an external drive.
The RAM might also come in handy if another laptop of similar age needs it, but that is all.

Yeah Nev is right we have arrived at that point where there really is nothing left but move on. No laptop is worth replacing a motherboard on when you see the prices.

Ok well the issues has gotten worse. I dont know why but I no longer am able to boot linux. I can get up to the menu asking me how I want to boot linux:
    normall boot
    copatability boot
    memory check
    etc.
Its doing the weird graphic thing forcing me to hard reboot. I tried to check the ram again but it freezes a test #4 57% usually, it avries from time to time. It also will just do a wuick flash and then show a black screen for around 5min then it just turns off.
