KMS Host Error

Discussion in 'Windows Home Server' started by Fred Ceballos, Apr 6, 2009.

  1. To activate Vista clients via a KMS host requires a threshold of 25 Vista
clients in our environment. Currently we have not yet reached this threshold.
To determine the current threshold, a command is run on the KMS host: cscript
c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /dlv. This command displays license information
including the threshold. All had worked fine until I attempted to run this
command on last week. When running the command on last week it returned
Error: Product key not found. I then re-entered the KMS license key
successfully but received an error while trying to activate it: Error:
    Product not found.

I have been unable to find anything on what these generic errors might mean.
I uninstalled then re-installed KMS successfully and entered and activated
the key successfully. I then was able to run the /dlv command successfully to
    determine threshold.

Then last night after patching was performed on the server, again running
the command is producing the error. Though it appears KMS is still
functioning (as indicated by the Event Viewer and external clients making
contact with the KMS host), I am unable to determine threshold.

    Any clues?

  2. Hello Fred,
Is the KMS host running Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 or Windows
    Vista?

    Thanks,
