First off, yes I know I should always backup and normally would have Erunt installed...but, in this case it's a new (used) laptop I just recently picked up, so this is pre-preventative maintenance. Everything else about it works fine but somehow the keyboard registry got corrupted. I can't do any sys restore as it fails even in safe mode, and don't have a disk. The driver won't reinstall even after disabling the driver digital signature enforcement . Status = "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"...w/ rollback option inactive. The startup repair couldn't fix it either. Mouse works fine and the on-screen keyboard does too other than having to hit shift every time to get the spacebar to work.

So, does anyone have a (relatively) easy fix? There's also no recovery partition setup yet and would prefer not having to do a full system reinstall if possible.

@Bill - No warranty it was a used as-is situation, but the price was right...$20 U.S. from a "it's broke and might only cost $5 to repair but I'll just buy a new one" type of guy. The only thing I found wrong with it was the keyboard issue. A bit of a headache but still well worth it even if it comes down to a full system reinstall.

@Cindy - your advice is spot-on and I did try that route but it couldn't locate the drivers needed to fix the issue. One would expect that Microsoft (with it's vast resources and technical wizardry) would at least have a database with the compatible driver links connected to their Fix It program, but no such luck. I also tried a system scan on Toshiba's product support page. The results came up with every other driver for my system...except (of course) the one needed for the keyboard. So I figured might as well try it again hey maybe there's another keyboard driver that will work, but then just got this little bugger...

So I'll give it another shot later...

Thanks for the welcome and much obliged to you both!

Have you tried to use a USB keyboard?

Remove the keyboard reference from the Device Manager and see if that helps?

Have you also checked the setting under Keyboards and Languages?
Can be found by going to Region and Language.

Yep tried all those as well. With the USB keyboard/mouse combo I have attached the mouse works fine but not the keyboard, which is what points me to a corrupt registry issue. For now I'll just have to either use the on-screen kb or access via remote, but may just end up having to do the full system reinstall. Thanks though for the attempts.

Were you ever able to get the drivers for the Toshiba site and try them?

Have you tried a repair install?

Unfortunately, the Toshiba site doesn't seem to have the right driver, and don't have a disk for a repair install. :(

Is there any type of registry cleaner or computer optimizer on this laptop, that you know of?
