    Hi there. My computer's harddrive recently died on me, leaving me in a situation where I could not get onto my computer. I bought myself a new hard drive and managed to successfully install the new HD into the computer. I ran the recovery disks that came with my system and then the windows 7 installation disk and managed to at least get the system up and running (I'm typing on the problem computer now). Here's the problem though. While the basic system is working fine, I'm having issues reinstalling the drivers. My screen looks stretched, because the ATI driver is not installed and there's no sound, because the sound card driver won't work- I have the disk to install these drivers, but every time I try the computer tells me that Windos 7 cannot run these drivers because they are not signed.
    So, My question. How do I fix this? Is there some sort of step in the reinstallation phase that I missed? I'm running an Asus K52JR notebook computer. I have the cds that came with the purchase, including an Asus version of windows 7, four recovery disks and the driver utility cd. This is the first computer I've fixed on my own. My technical knowledge of computers is intermediary at best, so please be specific in your troubleshooting instructions.

    If you need any more information, please let me know
    Thanks!

    Hi melissa and welcome to CHF

    Start > type in ......devmgmt.msc ......ENTER
    Click the + next to Sound - Video - Game
    Right click on the device shown ( if in fact there is one ) > Update Driver Software ..............do this automatically

    Let us know if this sorts the sound out.

    EDIT:
    Take a look here for your drivers

    Hi, thanks for the quick response. The drivers are already installed on the computer. If I boot up with F8 and Allow the use of unsigned drivers, my computer functions normally. But this step is only temporary and the minute I restart my computer, the unsigned drivers thing is disabled again and I'm back to square one. The drivers also seem to all be up to date with no change D8

    Hello MelissaB and Welcome to Computer Help Forums.

    I've run into this problem several times and found these instructions taken from Techspot to work perfectly.

    Disable User Account Control (UAC) and reboot computer.
    Go to Start and type cmd in the search box;
    Right-click on cmd.exe (it should be at the top of the list) and select Run as administrator;
    In the newly created command prompt box, type the following and press enter:

    bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS

    Note: DDISABLE is NOT a typo!

    Go to NGOHQ.com and download the latest Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider (DSEO) ;
    There is no need to install the app, just copy it to a safe location and run it;
    Click next and please take your time to read the license agreement, then click 'Yes';
    Optional: select How-to-use and click 'Next'.
    This will open a new browser page with information on this software and how to use it.
    Though it's useful, you might not fully understand the steps outlined there.
    Select Enable Test Mode and click next;
    Now select Sign a System File and click next;
    In the text box, type the path and name of the file (see the example included), then click on OK to sign the driver;
    After being told that the file was signed successfully, continue signing the other files (if there are any left) and then reboot;
    Your driver should now load successfully and you may now enable UAC.

    Hey again. So I managed to fix the issue on my own :)
    The drivers for the sound card and the graphics card are nothing special, so I figured that something must have gone wrong the first time I installed the system, and sure enough, reinstalling windows just from my recovery cd's worked like a charm! Everything's in order. Thanks a bunch though for your help, it was really frustrating.
