Hello there. About a month and a half ago I ordered a number of parts build a computer for the first time. The parts arrived and I put everything together and there was no video through any of the ports. I brought it to the roommate of my friend who helped me pick out the parts and we tried known good RAM and also tried running it with nothing but the essentials connected and still no video or any beeps indicating an error. I was told the issue was looking like it was the motherboard, and I got a replacement set up through the site I got the parts from. Got the replacement and the same this is happening. Was told the best thing to try next would be a new power supply, went out and bought a new one and the issue is still persisting. The person that was helping me said he didn't have the resources to troubleshoot it further and I'm kinda stuck not knowing what to do next.

I would like to thank anyone for any help they can provide and for taking a look into this. Below are the parts I have for my computer.

Hello JDogg and Welcome to CHF,

Are you by chance using an analogue monitor? The product specification page from your link http://www.canadacom...&item_id=047294 .
says the DVI-D port does not support D-Sub connection by adapter. It's DVI-D, not DVI-I, so you cannot use an analogue monitor with it.

Thank you very much for the welcome and for looking into this. I suppose I should have thought to post the main display I've been trying this on. We have tried a 2nd display as well however.

I'm pretty sure the display I'm using is digital, it's an Acer S240HL, 24" Ultra-Slim Widescreen LED Monitor, 1920x1080, 5ms(GtG), 100M:1(ACM), VGA, DVI and HDMI (w/HDCP)

There has been a slight update however. After I posted this topic I got a text from my friend when he was out that his roommate who's helped with this had an idea that the processor might not be compatible w/ on board graphics. I checked the box for the processor and it says "Graphics Card Required" on the box, so it looks that way. Now another friend of mine let be borrow an older GPU of his (or rather 2, one of them broke down and he replaced them but wasn't sure which) and I gave them both a try. Both of them had the same result, the CPU fan didn't spin as it was before and there was a high pitched tone coming out of the computer (Still no Video).

So the computer is still not working, but at least things are starting to make a little more sense, and I suppose it's a possibility that both GPUs my friend let me borrow were faulty. Any further help would be appreciated as i'm still not quite sure where to go from here short of trying to get my hands on another GPU and I'm not sure where I'd find one short of dropping the money for a new one,

Hi, looking at the spec for both the motherboard and the monitor, the on board graphics should work. The monitor is compatible with any of the outputs from the motherboard.
So where do we go from here?

First, is there a battery in the slot on the motherboard for what is comonly called the CMos battery, a round coin sized thing, and if there, make sure any insulating strip is removed which will have been fitted to prevent the battery going flat in storage.
Have you as yet put any disks into the drive? The motherboard should have come with a drivers disk, have you installed them yet?
As nothing comes up on screen I assume you have yet to install the operating system, that is OK, lets get at least the BIOS up on screen first, so check that battery and then try the drivers disk and see what happens.

    Nev.

I did have a battery meeting the description that you've given, but it didn't have any sort of insulating strip as far as I could see. It seems however I had messed up w/ the power on the GPU, which seems to have been causing the issue. I'm now able to see things on the screen, boot to the BIOS and boot to the copy of windows I've got. Everything seems in order except windows is giving me a bit of trouble when I try to select the drive to boot it to. From here I'm feeling alot more confident that I may actually get this thing working eventually, even if it doesn't seem I'll have a working HDMI port for the time being.

I'd also like to again thank you both for your help in troubleshooting things.
