Is MalwareRemovalBot real or a rogue application

Sorry if this is off topic, but it is the only newsgroup in my list that
    seemed relevant.

I recently installed MalwareRemovalBot by accident - as I thought I had
downloaded MalwareBytes since it came up as the first link in Google and the
icon for the application looked extremely similar.

Checking on the web for this application seems to give a raft of
    discrepencies.

Some say that it is a good application and has all sorts of reviews for it.
Others say that it is a rogue spyware application that claims to have found
lots of problems, but you have to get the paid version to get rid of them
    all.

As I am not sure if I can trust it, I have not run it.

What is the general consensus on this one?

    TIA

    Martin

Good thing you didn't run it. A quick Google shows a lot of links saying
MalwareRemovalBot is a rogue antispyware program. Even one link would be
enough for me but the fact that you said you downloaded it "by accident"
leads me to believe you were fooled by its site or link giving you the
impression the rogue program was the very excellent Malwarebytes'
Anti-malware (MBAM). Legitimate programs don't need to do this fraudulent
    behavior.

Delete the installer and download the real MBAM from .
Unlike the rogues, the free version of MBAM (and other good removal
programs like SuperAntiSpyware) work just fine. You do not have to purchase
    them to remove malware.

Good thing...? OP says: "I recently installed MalwareRemovalBot by accident
    ".
Where's the "good" part? Installing a rogue AV is sufficient to mess up the
    system, sometimes beyond repair.

Not really. Most rogues are relative low level threats. Some however are accompanied by
    RootKits such as the TDSserv.

Most rogues are just about the money.

There's nothing good about it. I missed the part where he said he installed
it and keyed on the part where he said, "I have not run it." I'm well aware
of the damage that rogues can do since I actually do this for a living; I
just made a mistake in reading the OP's post. Regrettably, it happens.
    Unless *you* are perfect....?

    He should remove it ASAP.

Did I say I was? No one is.

I do recognize your name and have read other posts that you made in the
past. I know you've given good advice. I was just surprised to see why you
said it's a "good thing" that OP hasn't run the malware. As for me,
installing malware (by accident or not) is sufficient to stop me from
    trusting my system.
