I have noticed that is is becoming increasingly difficult to actually navigate the Malwarebytes site to get to the free version. As of this writing when you do find the free version on their site it redirects to Bleeping Computer. Once there it lists the download as shareware and there is a "buy" button. Personally I am not sure that the other button is not leading to the trial version.

I get the feeling that "Free" malwarebytes may be becoming a thing of the past.

I always download the free version directly from the Malwarebytes web site.
The free version is here , bottom of the page on the left side. I did notice
recently that sometimes you may have to fill out your email address and
name to get a link for the free download.

Here is a post from the Malwarebytes forum. I asked if the FREE version was being phased out.

If I had knowledge of an official policy change I would link to it or give the source. What I have said is that it is becoming more difficult to navigate to the free version using the malwarebytes.org site.

The link that Cindy provided used to be a simple link to a direct download, Now they are asking for your email address and they acknowledge that it is to provide you with "offers." The mirror links mentioned in the forum you linked to seem to be reduced to 1 and that is bleeping computer. I read the page and, as I said, I am not all that sure that you will actually get the free version. So while I applaud your research I am not sure I can trust the result.

Simply put there was a time not so long ago where the choice was free and obvious. Now it is not. Some of these mirror sites are filled with misleading advertisements that can easily cause the user to download the wrong thing. It is for that reason that we normally recommend downloading from the "official" site.

As for the forum that you linked to, it is their forum not an independent source. If and I emphasize "if" there is a new emphasis ( and I clearly detect one ) it is not going to be admitted simply because someone asked the question.

Frankly, despite all this I still think that the Pro version is one of the better deals available. It is a lifetime subscription and the pro product is a much better product than the free.

The link below is a direct download. When you click on it, it is an (.exe) file.

:D Thanks Allheart that is more than just useful. Now, I am afraid that not all users have your level of sophistication or knowledge to extract that direct download. I am suggesting that there is a trend. I believe that someone over there has come to the conclusion that emphasizing the trial version is the way to go and that they were not getting enough subscription updates from the free version.

This is nothing more than my observation and only time will tell if I am right or seeing things.

No doubt you are correct in your assumption that by pushing the 30 day trial version
and making the free version less available, they hope to see more people purchasing the
full product. I'm in complete agreement with you Barry, it's well worth buying, it's an
excellent program and IMO, it's worth it's weight in gold.

(For slightly less than $25. with lifetime updates, it's a steal.)

If this is indeed going on, an I have no way of knowing for sure, I would have much more respect for them if they would just come out an say they can no longer afford to support or provide a free version, Game playing has a tendency to tick me off, an then I don't give a dang how good their product is I will start to bad mouth them.

    Thanks

Well if this is true maybe we had better start a campaign for Google to Buy MalawareBytes, ok you may have adverts but you got to give it to Google they give everything away free and still make ridiculous amounts of profit :D

This is the link i normally give out:
    http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php

It will give a direct download..... once the page loads.
Yes MBAM do seem to be pushing the full version.
They use the excuse that MBAM is now a trial version and hope you pay for it after the trial.
At the price they ask it's not an unreasonable amount at all, but to be honest the extra you get for your money isn't that great.
Most educated people will already have real time scanners, so adding one more isn't always the best idea.
You do have the option of not agreeing to the full version.... then it'll go straight into 'On Demand' mode.
MBAM works great as an on demand scanner.... and that works for me.

Hum, I typed in the address, as a straight typed in input= www.malwarebytes.org

Using Firefox, that opened up the malwarebytes download page, with a "Download now" and below it, a "Buy now" buttons, the "Download Now" button sent me to C|Net.

Being suspicious that the mirror sites may be browser related, I opened Internet Explorer, in that, the "Download Now" button sent me to "FileForum" Thus proving a suspicion about various downloads from mirror sites that there is a browser connection involved.

The FileForum site is here= http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Malwarebytes-AntiMalware/1186760019/1

    and C|Net here= http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button

At least the free version is still available, but only from a mrror site, so what is going on?

    Nev.

I fail to see where you download malwarebytes from, being an issue, Nev.
The mirror sites have a good reputation.
Always scan downloaded software before installation, regardless of origin.
Many downloads direct you to mirror sites.[IMG]

I think you are both right, the mirror sites will normally give you a clean download but then they also often have confusing download buttons where you think you are getting one thing and wind up with another. They also seem to be the kings of the unwanted toolbar.

Now, that being said. I started this thread back in the summer and I was more interested in who the clown is who posted a link to the google UK search page and directed me to remove the topic. Hence the Excuse me? in big bold letters.

I think that basically the reason for the mirrors is that malware is now trying to block The Malwarebytes site so that MBAM can't be downloaded.
By being redirected to the mirror sites it over comes this problem.
The newer version of MBAM has what is called Chameleon Technology which is meant to overcome the problem of the program being blocked from running once installed.
