I recently got a Kindle Fire HD and am wondering if I need to have any program to protect against virus, malware, spyware, etc??

    Thanks.

Hi patszy, I would say yes, it is a good idea especially if you visit the internet a lot, or plan to. We have a couple of malware / virus specialists that moderate this forum and I am sure they will give you some recommendations as to what software you should use for this tablet.

    Cheers: Rich

    Hi,

It uses Android and there are viruses that can run on those systems. However, I have no experience with Android so I can't recommend any apps. I will just say that good browsing behavior and security programs will protect you. By good browsing behavior, beware installing apps that are not well known; don't click random links or open email attachments, etc.

    Hi patszy

    The answer is definitely Yes.
A tablet is basically a mini computer, so is suseptable to malware just the same.
There isn't the choice of AntiVirus/Anti Malware programs available for tablets, compared to computers but a few of the bigger vendors do a version.
You can find a list here:

    Edit:
I see that etavares and i posted at the same time. :cool-21:

    Thanks!
There was one called, "Lookout" which was offered free today, so I got it. It looks good, did a scan, found no problems.
I have loads of space so decided to take advantage of this offer.

    Hi patszy

As this type of software is fairly new, i'd be interested to know what you think of 'LookOut' after running it for awhile.

    Thanks
