I was wondering if the free Gmail is "relatively' safe? I realize that being webmail it will always collect information about my interests but "so what"! Does it have any advantages or disadvantages in comparison to other webmail applications? Do any members have their preferences when it comes to webmail?

I don't use Gmail but I do use Yahoo and Hotmail.

I think it's probably about as safe as any other web mail.

I have quite a few clients that use it and they haven't complained.

I've been using it for years with no issues. I realize they're probably reading my mail, but I don't care.

I don't care for the way emails are displayed as conversations. If that bothers you, don't use the web interface. Use an email client i.e. Outlook, Wndows Live Mail, Thunderbird.

Have used Gmail for a number of years now.
It's very good at catching the spam.... so i'm happy with it.

In many ways its the best of the majors doing this and I have never had an issue with it though I read it through Outlook as pop3 email.

Gmail is a bit confusing to use. First there is a Google+ etc., it is just loaded with many unnecessary features causing confusion. & Yahoo! security is not so good, there was once a person who hacked into Yahoo's database and got millions of user's log-in and password.

I use Hotmail mostly to give to sites to confirm my accounts but Microsoft is without a doubt also providing governments with your 'private' mails. So whichever you may prefer to use, I just think it won't be possible to evade those prying eyes.

There will always be some of that going on but nothing like folks think.

Hmm, for me, I think they should be exhausted by now since I haven't received any legitimate mail in ages other than 'please confirm your account'.

Can one have two separate Gmail accounts displayed on a desktop?

N3 I am not quite sure you are asking but if I am right yes you can if you are viewing them through a browser.

I have 3 separate Gmail accounts and have no problems.
Each has it's own email address ( obviously) and each has a separate password.
All 3 are checked by using Outlook. ( i very rarely use the webmail )

If you mean in a browser.... then yes if you open 2 tabs.
