IRQ Problem?

    I have a VAMP-WM15M monitor.

Our assembly test guys run programs in windows and in DOS. We have found
that when they ALT + TAB from the windows desktop to the DOS program that
sometimes the monitor freezes up. It either comes up with a distorted view of
the program and if you ALT + TAB back and forth a few times the screen might
come up normal or it will come up black and you can not ALT + TAB out of it.
I have been told that it might have something to do with switching from
standard VGA mode to Super VGA mode. I must unplug the monitor cable from the
computer for a few seconds and then plug it back in. Sometimes two or three
times to get the monitor back to normal. When I unplug this monitor and plug
in an external monitor I do not get this issue.

I was checking some IRQ settings in the device manager and found that I have
two items set to IRQ 5.

    1. Under system devices I have
    Intel 82801BA/BAM SMBus Controller - 2443

    2. Under Display Adapters I have
    ATI Mobility Radeon

Could this be causing my problem? If so what should I change? If not any
    other ideas?

Could this be what is causing my problem?

  2. This IRQ will be assigned to PCI, so there should be no problem with two
devices using the same IRQ as PCI is designed to share. If you want to
change things to see whether there is any effect, do it in BIOS setup under
an option for 'Manage PCI' or 'PCI IRQ' or similar. But note that manually
assigning PCI IRQs might have other odd effects.

It is unlikely that the IRQ is related to the problem - as already
discussed, this is an issue with the monitor's ability to detect and respond
to the change in configuration, as you have proved by substituting a
    different display.

What happens when you run the DOS application in a DOS window that is not
    full screen?

I don't know. But does it also happen when you get back to the GUI in
    other ways, for instance...?...

    (a) Alt+Space, & select Minimize.
    (b) Alt+Space, Properties, Screen tab,
& bolt "Window" in the Usage section.
