My laptop indicates that it is connected to our modem and that it has "Internet Access". However, I can't use the Internet on any of my browsers. I've tried turning my Wi-Fi on and off, and that did not do anything. I also tried restarting my laptop and the modem, but that did not do anything either. I checked the Device Manager to see if the NIC was working properly. That said it was working just fine. Unless it's lying to me. I connected an Ethernet cable to my laptop, but I still could not get onto the Internet. I ran my computer in safe mode but still could not get to the Internet. I have no idea what the problem is.

I used troubleshooting and this is what it returned to me:
"The connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken."
I did what it told me to and restarted my modem...again. It didn't work.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Hello and welcome. You said you tried starting in Safe Mode. Can you please try starting in Safe Mode with Networking. Also please use the Ethernet cable because the wireless connection will not work in Safe Mode with Networking.

    Hello Dragnet,

I started my laptop in Safe Mode with Networking and used the Ethernet cable, like you asked. My internet still is not working even after doing this, and it still says that I have internet access. I keep getting the same "This webpage is not available" message every time I open up the browser.

Someone else helped me through my problem. I used Norton's tool to remove all of my previous Norton security, because I recently switched to another security provider. Ended up disabling ipv6 and setting the DNS to something else. Internet started working right after I did that.

    Thanks for the follow up.
    Probably the DNS setting.
