This is only a minor problem but it's very annoying. I use IE8 in Windows 7. I don't use
tabbed browsing, I have it set to open a new window each time. (This only happens when
I click on a link.) For instance, if I open an email from CHF and click on the link beneath
"The topic can be found here:"
the new window will only open halfway. (The top of the screen, filled side
to side but only half way down.) I have googled the problem, I have tried all of the
suggested fixes but none of them have worked.
I have three Windows 7 Desktops and the other two do not have this problem. I posted
a screenshot of the half opened window.
    Any ideas?

    Solution:

    1) Clear space on desk by moving keyboard.

    2) Bang head on desk 7 times.

    3) Uninstall I.E.

    4) Install/use Fire Fox or Opera.

I'm a die-hard Internet Explorer user. I teethed on it and have never used any other browser.
I have been using it since 1995...(Old habits die hard)
    [IMG] I did however follow steps 1 & 2...[IMG]
Keyboard is now broken and so is head...[IMG]

    Have you tried resetting IE?

Select "Tools" from the Windows Internet Explorer Information toolbar.
    Choose "Internet Options."
    Go to the "Advanced" tab.
Click on the "Reset" button under the "Reset Internet Explorer Settings" section, then exit.

Sure you knew How but I wouldn't be able to say the same for anyone else reading the thread

If this don't work you can always resort to steps 1 and 2 in Kojak's post, then try re-installing IE or Windows

Wouldn't it be more helpful to try and pinpoint the problem, than say when someone has a tricky problem,

    "OH Just reinstall Windows"

Reinstalling Windows and Tweaking takes a lot of time, and this should only be a last option.

I agree with you DSTM, in general, BUT in this case we are dealing with a known senior technical member who is simply experiencing a problem (proves she is human ) I suspect she will take that advice with a grain (pinch) of salt.

This is Very true, How ever if Allheart, has come to a point where she is asking for suggestions I very much Doubt with her expertise that anyone will be able to suggest anything that will resolve the issue.

Personally I like these sort of problems and have been looking into this the only other thing I have found so far to do with IE windows size is this

But there are times when trying to pin point or resolve a problem may well take a lot longer than reinstalling windows, I have spent months as in 6 or 7 trying to resolve a problem with the screen resolution resetting on every reboot, and after having a problem with a virus that refused to be removed I re-installed resolving the issue.

This is why I know Back up with an Image of my C drive so that in the event of an issue that I can't reload all my settings and tweaks with the Image :D
As it normally takes 30 mins to install, half a day to update, and 3 or 4 days of work to get it back to how I like it, so yes it is easier said than done ;)

It is important to have a back up Image, of your C Drive, however if this problem has been evident from Day 1,then sadly, you are up the creek, without a paddle, because the Image will have the issue, and therefore useless.

The point I was trying to make is, doesn't matter who we are,we are Human, and can miss something. :)

Each approach has its costs and benefits.

We each do our own cost/benefit analysis and proceed according to the conclusion arrived at.

I use I.E. only when there are no other options.

Depending on engine design, you may or may not have bent a few valves in the process.
