Hey guys, google led me here, and glad to have found an active forum!

Im hoping some one here can shed some light on my problem, as even with my experience, im having no luck at all.

    The Problem -
My Dad is with Virgin Broadband, using 30mb.
90% of things I download wether it's updates, or fresh install files, no matter what website i download them from, seem to fail upon either extraction, or installing of said files.

I've managed to source this to his internet for sure by the following methods.

My old pc, his pc, his laptop, any phones connecting to the wifi including the ipads also have this problem, I took my phone and tethered my "three" network signal to his PC, downloaded the same Nvidia graphics driver that would not work amongst other files such as updates on windows update, and they all worked fine.

So i then took his laptop away to mine, I am also with Virgin using 10mb. Downloaded updates and files and installed with no problems at all.

I have called Virgin, on behalf of my Dad given his permission, they checked the lines packets, and signals etc, and they came back perfect, I spoke to numerous agents, from all parts of the planet, and they all told me everythings fine, I eventually managed to persuade them to send out a new Vigin Superhub.

When it arrived, i activated it, hooked it up etc, and same issue. So i called back,

They refuse to acknowledge this is theyre problem, im told that it is my problem and must be the computers, even AFTER explaining to them that I can tether my phone and everything works, and also that if I take said Laptop or ipad/phones and connect to any other network (including my neighbours BT connection ) that everything works fine.

They refuse to send a technician out, and arguing with them is getting me no where, i've even changed some of the superhubs settings such as signal type, security, and even signal channel, and nothing is fixing this issue, i've checked all possible hardware issues ofcourse on each device, and all devices/memory etc is working perfectly.

So for the love of all the geekness inside of me, can some one please shed some light on this pain in the you know what issue.

    All help is appreciated :)

What happens if you use a wired connection instead of the wireless connection. I'm wondering if there's something at your physical location interferring with the connection. Yeah, I know how packets are supposed to work. They have built in error correction to check for bad packets, but it's worth a try to see if things are fine using a wired connection.

I'll need to try that, will post back my results when im at my dads next week, I actually thought about that and was looking for an ethernet cable, will have to buy one on my way up, he has it in another room you see, so he just uses the wireless, he hates all the cables and clutter lol.

As i said, i'll post back next week when I try it!

    ty for response.

Hi, just in case a direct ethernet cable connection doesn't work. (Which I hope it does)

I assume your dad is connected to Virgin by cable and not a BT line as he has the high speed, so I suggest an examination of the cable as it comes into the house as far back to the street as you can.

I say that because my neighbour was having strange problems which no one would accept it being the fault of Virgin, it turned out there was a nick in the outer covering of the cable in his garden. It wasn't enough to prevent connection, but was obviously playing havock with the signal. We assumed it was a gardening tool had done the damage.

    Nev.
