    Hi,
I'm using Windows server 2008 32 Bit. Now I would like to install Windows
Server 2008 RC2 64 Bit edition. Is it possible to install windows server
2008 RC2 64 bit edition in my system with Intel processor supports EM64T.
Can I able to run 32 bit softwares in that edition.

    Hi
Will there be any significant increase in performance. My system is Intel
    Core2Duo E6400, 2GB Ram, 160 GB HDD. If I'm moving to windows server 2008
RC2, can I backup the existing programs in Windows server 2008 and Restore
it windows server 2008 RC2. Please give me some tips.

It is called Windows Server 2008 R2, not RC2. It is only available in
64-bit. It is the next version of the OS, just as Windows 7 in the next
version of the client OS (previous version was Vista). The RC versions are
    pre-release (beta) versions.

Windows Server 2008 R2 should install fine on that hardware. As Meinolf
pointed out, there is a free trial version available for you to test.

  4. Hello Vijay,

Hardware is sufficient for that. To clarify the terms see the information
about RC and R2 from Bill. Or do you really use the Release candidate and
not the official released one (RTM)?

Programs you have to reinstall, you can not backup them and import into a
new OS. Maybe define what you need to import on the new server to see what
    is possible.

    Best regards

The majority of 32-bit software will run OK. 16-bit software will not, but
    that is rare these days.

Where problems arise, it is usually because of the use of a separate
Programs folder for 32-bit apps, which interacts in a somewhat strange way
with the 'real' Programs folder. My solution in such cases is to avoid this
altogether and install to a new folder. (Remember that in W2008 a new folder
created in C:\ has restrictive permissions by default)
