Starbuck and BeeCeeBee I dont know how this happened I did not download or open any attachments. I was looking at belt buckles and a window popped up saying a threat was detected and began a scan. It looks like a windows logo its installed itsef in my task bar down by the clock and as it was running it says child porn found, then a seperate window pops up saying my files are being accessed and copied by a real looking IP address (177.214.188.105) It had closed my firefox browser and now I cant get FF to open back up nor will my task manager work.

I installed microsoft security essentials the first of this year when I got the palladium virus but right now I can not get it to open. Instead the icon that looks like my antivirus is opening up is called spyware protection. I tried to run malwarebytes but it will not open.

Last but most annoying of all is what seems like every minute sounds like window pop ups and idiot dings are going off.

I anxiously await your expert help in removing this crap.

    NEVER MIND :madd:

It took me a while to think about going into safe mode and running my anti malwarebytes program. Once I was in safe mode I ran a scan and removed the files it found. I momentarily forgot how to boot in safe mode ( F8), and if your reading this with a potentially similar problem choose Safe Mode with networking so you can get on the web to update your programs or get onto the internet.

Can anyone tell me why anti malware bytes or windows security essential let this get on my pc then and disable my protection? Could it have come from a divx movie i downloaded?

No matter how good your security software is, you are never completely protected.
It's virtually impossible. You can add another layer of protection by taking steps to
protect yourself. Surf safely, stay informed and diligent and be aware. Malware can
    enter on almost anything.
A divx movie you downloaded? It's very possible.

At the end of the day good commen sense is one of the best tools too, like what site is a dodgy site and what not, if unsure dont click on it. Why not download WOT "web of trust" i use this as i find it much better than mcafee site advisor and it is pretty much accurate too. I think most of us have been caught out in the past ;)

And make sure you are regularly use the windows update feature for updating very important security fixes too.

Always make sure you AV is upto date and that you only have one AV realtime program installed at anyone time, and run regular scans.

Personally for good free security programs I would use Microsoft Security Essentials v2 & MalwareBytes Free :)

At the end of the day nobody is immune to malware or virus's but to try and prevent them is mainly good AV software and keeping it upto date as well as your windows updates too and common sense. ;)

    Bugsy

    yes, especially:
as i always say in my cleanup speech:
Basically when you agree to a download, you allow anything that comes with it or installed within it.

OK I have waited on this and yes all the posts were right on point. Jacque you are a good member and we are always glad to help you out. But in looking back you really need to be more in tune to what you are doing. If you are going to persist in this kind of download you are going to keep running into the same kind of problem again and again.

Have a good look at Starbuck's avatar. That is actually him in the suit he wears when he comes to visit your home to make a point.
