Hi, i just dropped my laptop when visiting the loo just now! I was so careless.

So i tried to boot up my laptop again and this showed up and i can't go any further than this!

Is there anyway i can get into the system again? Because i have a very very important report in it which is due for submission soon!

    Hi Michelle,

You should be seeing the hard drive in that list. You are not. That indicates that either the hard drive has been jarred loose inside the computer or (and most likely) it has failed. I especially suspect that it has failed if the computer was running when you dropped it.

There may be a panel on the bottom of the laptop which allows you to gain access to the hard drive. If so, open the panel and see if the hard drive has been jarred. If so, correct the situation by re-connecting the hard drive. If it looks like it hasn't been jarred, you're going to have to take the computer to a professional.

The hard drive will look similar to the one shown here hard drive.JPG

Let the powers to be know what happen and once you get it to the repair shop see if they can retrieve that for you.

When a laptop has been dropped there are so many things that may get damaged, yes it appears your hard drive may have been damaged as a result, but equally so it may have been any number of other components that may not allow the hard drive to communicate.

Another option is to take the hard drive out and using a dock on another computer see if you can access the drive. This is not the time for a lecture, but it demonstrates the importance of regular drive backups.

    Good luck with it.

Most hard drives in Laptops are screwed down so they can't become disconnected. If the Laptop was running when you dropped it then odds are the hard drive is toast. I would try all the above recommendations though.

:geek:Okay let's make a small analogy of what happened that hdd think of earth being the disc of the hard drive the earth spinning at 7200 RPM the needle that reads the hard disk is approximately 3 feet away from the surface of the earth once you drop the loptop the needle touched the earth while its spinning at 7200 rpm think of the scratch and how long it could be just in one second that it's touching or a fraction of a seconds it's like a record with the longer a long scratch this is just for fun but it's technically the reality hope you like my representation
