HyperV Datacenter question

Hi,

We are looking into HyperV datacenter version ($3k per proc) , now for
licensing is it by physical proccessor or virtual proccessor?

The Server/Client Access Licensing (CAL) model applies to Windows Server
2008 Datacenter. However, the server license component differs for Datacenter,
in comparison to Standard or Enterprise, in that the cost of the server license
varies with the number of physical processors installed on the Datacenter
server.

Thanks, so a dual Quad core server, this would need 2 licenses?

Gonzo,
as per Windows_Hyper_V_Licensing_Whitepaper_v2_0.docx, which you can
download from the MS Web site "Microsoft generally considers multicore and
hyperthreaded processors to be a single processor, regardless of the number
of cores and/or threads they contain." My advice though would be to contact
MS directly - you would want to have an authoritative answer regarding
this...

According to the FAQ, yes. Still 2 physical processors. If you will be sure
call MS support.
