This is set to print using the network cable. If you want to print using the network cable, set up the printer with a static IP address. You probably have to do that using the printer's front panel buttons. (I'm not familiar with this particular printer). Then come back to this page and click on the Add Port button to add the IP address for the printer. If you need help setting up a static address, let us know and we can help with that. I won't be back here for several hours.

If you want to use the USB port, I'm used to seeing something like that USB002 Virtual printer port like the one set up for the HP Deskjet D4300. There might be a USB port for the M1522 printer somewhere in that selection, but you'd have to scroll to find it.

btw: You can use the printer with both the USB and network ports. You'd have to add a 2nd icon for the other method. You'd end up with one icon for the USB connection using the USB port and another icon for the network connection using a TCP/IP port.

First choice is to get the network cable to work. I did enter the IP address of the new cable (plugged into the printer) into the printer. Is that the "static IP address?" It does show up correctly on the config report.

Before I shut this computer down to take it with me, I ask:
Is the printer working with the network cable?
What is the IP address and subnet in the report?

If it's not printing, see if you can ping it from the computer.

... I'll be back in several hours.

    Per config report:

    Hardware address: f4:ce:46:3a:04:e9
    Host name: NPI3A04E9
    IPv4: 192.168.1.4
    IPv6: FE80::F6CE::46FF::FE3A::4E9

Went thru various steps in Control Panel that resulted in this altered printer lineup:
    upload_2019-2-15_11-13-7.png
Notice there is a second instance of the M1522 printer shown. The original version, highlighted, still shows offline, but the (copy 1) version shows ready. However, print jobs still get stuck in the queue. The HP Universal Printing PCL5 icon, now shown as default, prints ok, using several steps to get there. Also, I have to select it from the print menu, it is not in fact default.

After a couple more print jobs, I find the PCL5 is in fact the default option. But, I'm left, it seems, with a patched-up mess. Tomorrow I'm going to re-install all the printer software for this beast and see where that leaves me. I'll check Devices and Printers to be sure that herd of icons is gone before re-installing. If there's still a problem, I'll try using both cables.

Somewhere between posts 21 and 26 you changed the default printer. Quick question, when you print, do you look at which printer is selected as the destination? You can change which printer gets the print job.

Changed it today- got nowhere trying to get the M1522 icons to print- as you can see there are now two of those. But I have proven, via printing and a ping test yesterday, that the wiring is good and the network is functioning. My best move, as stated, is to start over with a reinstall. HP troubleshooting can't find that printer either. Hoping that the computer can find it this time.

    It's time to start over.

Don't worry if you appear to have more than 1 icon for the printer.
I have 2 for mine and my printer is a simple printer, not a copier, scanner or fax. I tried removing one some time ago and broke the possibility to print over the network. Now I let the icons alone.

Couple of hours ago reinstalled the software using the Wizard, all went fine, printed test page, etc. I was ready to report success.

Just tried to print another test doc and the computer once again can't find the printer, "offline." Pages go to queue and stop, as before.

Network connection active, printer "ready" shows on screen, software in computer installed w/ network option selected, proven by several test pages about an hour ago. Now- no go.

This is from the troubleshoot option for the printer. No other problems showed up.

Is this "Update" the same as the one for regular updates?

Are you using USB or network? It sounds like network. Can you ping it?

Using network. Pinged successfully yesterday. Green light next to network cable on back of printer shows green. Printed successfully today. printer shows "ready" in Devices and Printers" and prints but then shows "offline" if PC restarted.

That is strange. Can you go to Printer Properties via the Control Panel and print a test page from there?
