Hi there, I have a file that i need to give to a friend on a flash drive , but it wont fit because the flash drive is only 4gb. Is there any program that can make it small enough to fit on the flash drive?

    Hi wickedtoast and Welcome

First off you've just walked into a paint shop and asked for a tin of red paint, to which the person behind the counter normally hands you a colour chart and say which one. :)

So first off we need to know what type of informations in the file and what format its currently in, Videos, Pictures and Audio are difficult to compress, but by converting them to a different format, like .avi or .wmp4 you can get upto a 30% smaller file, however if it is already in that sort of format. were not going to be able to do a lot with it.

so if you right click on the file and select properties, under the general tab, it gives you the type of file, that information would be invaluable to answering your question.

But the other option is to buy a 8GB Flash Drive, £14 GBP ($26 NZD) ;) but I don't suppose that helps if you haven't got the money to buy a bigger flash drive.

Hi wickedtoast22. Further to Match's suggestion, another option if money is tight would be for you and your friend to install Free SKYPE and transfer the file straight from your Hard drive to their Hard drive.

Will take a little while to upload but costs you nothing.

    No compressing and decompressing.
